đď¸ Featuring: DYAD ďż˝đ USA, 2025ďż˝đŹ Direction: Katherine Helen Fisher | Choreography: Allysen Hooksďż˝đď¸ Friday, 4/24 at 7PM
DYAD poetically explores the resilience and fragility of the human form set against the stark beauty of Californiaâs Mojave Desert towns. Directed by Katherine Helen Fisher with choreography by Allysen Hooks, the film follows two female dancers in evocative cycles of collision and symbiosis. Cinematographer Sinziana Velicescu emphasizes the aesthetics of emptiness and the disappearing sustainability of the landscape through minimalist visuals, sparse architecture, and expansive barren terrains. Meticulous editing and immersive sound design by John Walter, combined with Astrid Sonneâs tightly driven score, heighten the filmâs meditation on vulnerability and ephemerality. Through metaphors of mitosis, DYAD subtly reflects humanityâs impact on Earthâs delicate ecosystems, offering a contemplative vision of connection and identity in the Anthropocene.

StandardVision was honored to collaborate with @dancecamerawest for this yearâs festival, presenting selected films from the LA Pops Up shorts program on our iconic digital façade at the Courtyard Marriott LA Live in downtown Los Angeles. Through the StandardVision Showcase Award, we were proud to help bring these dance films into the public realm, meaningfully situating these works within the urban landscape and expanding access to art in shared civic space.â

DYAD, directed by Katherine Helen Fisher & choreographed by Allysen Hooks, follows two dancers (Camille Wiltz & Aidan Rodgers) in an evolving physical dialogue, moving between collision and closeness within stark desert environments. The film holds the body and landscape in tension, allowing space, distance, and repetition to shape the experience. â

DYAD poetically explores the resilience and fragility of the human form set against the stark beauty of Californiaâs Mojave Desert towns. The film follows two female dancers in evocative cycles of collision and symbiosis, with movement informed by Lacanian frameworks of relationality, and a photographic language rooted in geometric minimalism: spare compositions that treat the built environment and open desert as an active visual score. DYAD offers a contemplative vision the Anthropocene, tracing the bodyâs journey alongside a landscape whose conditions feel quietly, unmistakably in flux.
DYAD was made in the desert during our residency at @doorthedesert in Joshua Tree, shaped by place, time, and the care of this remarkable team of artists:
