Cosmic chessboard study

Quietly finding my way back onto social media after a little 5ish-week breather from a number of things that have been acting as rubble on the doors of release and creative flow. I’ve been relishing the expansiveness that rushes in once you get used to being with yourself in silence for much of the time. I’ve often considered leaving this hell app behind for good, but as it stands now I still see it as a useful tool with the potential to serve some kind of higher good, so I’m back to post some of my silly little drawings for you all, perhaps with a little more intention and direction than I’ve been able to access in the past.

Experimenting with my drawing style…I have a couple of very different ways of working and I’ve been wanting to push for something in the middle for a while. Not sure if this is finished or not. Playing with symbols and trying to straddle the line between watery reverence and dumbass little drawings ✨

It’s been such a massive honor to be trusted with the time and space to create this enormous, immersive experience. It’s difficult to express the depth of my gratitude to @wassaicproject and the incredibly supportive, capable and talented staff - @danielleklebes @willhutnick @ahorasarah @catepasquarelli @jeff_barnett_winsby @dubyuheff for giving me the opportunity to work this big, and the latitude to god really wild with it. So so much gratitude also to all the other incredibly talented artists showing work in the Haunted Mill this year; sharing workspace, living space, and the cross-pollination of inspiration, concepts, materials, techniques, is imbued with such invaluable learning. @taylorleenicholson @mathildasuniverse @studio_dadisi @lishown @lanaquila @jasantana.smiles @michaelmersereau @therealemmaj @paulbelenky And most especially thank you to everyone who helped me along the way, whether it was with hoisting a giant skeleton (@lishown @lanaquila @jasantana.smiles @catepasquarelli @mathildasuniverse ), giving me a box of cardboard or a bag of newspapers (@ramirostudios @grooseling @yyalls ), walking with me to find fabric offcuts from an upholstery shop on our lunch break (@gurglegeorge ), being flexible with my work schedule (@sweatyghetti @jeffrune ), giving me plywood scraps and chili (Kyle Zenda) making me some amazing audio & helping me carry two huge benches up 7 flights of stairs & countless other production help (@jordanjohnparker ) or any of the countless other ways folks have helped make this dream possible. These kinds of things don’t simply happen without immense support from many many people, and I’m so thankful. In a moment where there is tremendous anxiety, suffering and chaos happening in the world, it is not lost on me how fortunate I am to feel so connected and experience a moment of bliss pouring my heart and soul into this silly enormous fantasy. I hope you will come and sit with me and find some lightness and spaciousness to simply be a creature on a rock in space, if only for a night.

The @wassaicproject Haunted Mill opens tomorrow & Saturday, October 27th & 28th from 4-7pm! This has been a really silly devotional practice of over 200hrs, over 3000 stairs for the past 3 weeks, and it’s by far the biggest and weirdest thing I’ve ever made. I really hope you come look at it and move through it in person. It’s extremely hard to photograph, and not just because my phone hates red light, but also because it is a huge thing that you enter and like, have you ever gotten a good picture *inside* of a human body? Verrrryyyyy excited to have designed the Camp Omi t-shirt this year. I had a blast drawing some camp favorites from the park as well as my personal favorites, and imagining how my creatures would explore & enjoy all that @art_omi has to offer. Here she is……..my neck is killing me and my perfectionism is telling me there’s still one more coat of touch up, but I’m calling it done. My bathroom masterpiece. I’ve been working on this for almost 5 months in neck-breaking little chunks between some pretty intense life events, and I have to say I’m pretty pleased to have completed my first full-on interior mural! I started with my beloved @dusendusen towels (please bring back this black and white set! 🏁 ours are looking so dingy and old) & just really going for disorienting, vibrating, sensory overload.
