CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS 🤍 … Issue 04, Luchando will be centering migrant garment workers—highlighting traditional and contemporary fiber arts as a reclamation of the resilience, dignity, and the exploitation of labor across the global fashion system. This work feels especially urgent amid growing labor precarity and immigration enforcement in the U.S. Algae Magazine has been fully self-produced and self-funded since 2023, made possible by community volunteers and contributors. We’ll have copies of Algae Magazine, Issue 03 “REGENERATION: the biomaterials edition” available for sale alongside other activist literature, radical print media, and more. This week, fashion moves off the production line and into the ᵂⁱᵍᵍˡᵉ ʳᵉᵃˡᵐ @janellerabbott unveils their FW26 collection @wiggglerooom live at @kestrelsbk during NYFW for a presentation rooted in play, movement, and transformation. “Wiggle Room explores the physical and emotional weight of modern garment manufacturing on people and planet. Conceived in collaboration with choreographer Alyza DelPan Monley @zazadpm and composer Keyes Wiley @dark_wiley the performance extends from previous works such as Channel Changer (2023) and the HOMESICK series (2024-2025); it is one segment of a larger on-going collaboration, Wiggle Room @wiggglerooom between Janelle Abbott of JRAT and Monley. An #ode to a year’s past & more to come! “2025 was a rich year… full of new experiences, breaking boundaries I didn’t think possible. Algae is a project I’m still learning to do independently. It can feel a bit overwhelming at times, & there are moments when I have to question why I’m doing it. I guess it boils down to the fact that capitalism is slowly disrupting our connection to each other & the environment. It’s hard to just sit & watch, so why not funnel it into something hopeful? To anyone who is working/ interested in biomaterials or sustainable research, thank you. I now have a (slightly) better understanding of all the work you do; those trials & tribulations just mean that you care <3 No matter how long it takes or how hard it becomes, here’s to sharing hope for generations to come.
