My friend Dave kept talking about this country western dance at the VFW in town, how there were world class musicians playing the classics, all for ten bucks every Wednesday. The first night I went I didn’t dance. I was completely taken. The music was incredible, it was impossible to label the crowd – it was more akin to walking down a city street – and, again, it was only ten bucks. When the band was wrapping up, there were a group of women, equally diverse, crowding around
@connorfkennedy the brainchild of the event. I threw myself amongst them, told Connor I wanted to come next week with my camera, dropped Les Blank as a stylistic reference, and the rest is history.
Our short film, Honky Tonk Wednesdays (sharing the name with the event) is the result. It’s a music film, but it’s also about people from all walks of life coming together and sharing in a good time. I couldn’t be more proud and excited with the film premiering at
@woodstockfilmfestival opening night at
@assemblykingston to a home-town crowd. I’ve been papering the town with posters Connor made, and everytime I ask a shopowner to put one up, their eyes light up the minute I say Honky Tonk. It’s a testament to what Connor created, and I’m glad we have a document of it to put out in the world. Hope to see you at the premiere.
Tickets are a little more than ten bucks, but we’ll be premiering with
@bsvestal film Opryland USA: A Circle Broken, there will be a Q&A,
@shotofsilvercindycashdollar and John Sebastian will be there, and then
@djprettygood will be playing all the classic country hits on vinyl. Connor and crew will not be there — their talents have earned them an extended engagement with a pop star in the big city. But I’m going to put Connor on speaker phone during the Q&A so he can give his 2-cents.
Hope to see y’all there. Tickets in bio.
