Of the things we tell our students, ‘the people you go to school with will be the people you build your career with’ rings true again and again. Sometimes these collaborations don’t happen until years after graduation, but they happen!

A few months back we premiered @alexburtzos Alex Burtzos’ ‘F R A N C E S C A’ at Columbia University’s St. Paul’s Chapel. Alex is an old friend from @msm.nyc days and we were, 15 years later, finally able to work together in this capacity. Whole piece at 🔗 in bio. Hope you dig!

CAMPGround26 looking back. A bit from Alex Burtzos' absolutely stunning piano piece, "E U R Y D I C E" at CAMPGround26.
composed for pianist Vicky Chow. The title of this work comes from Greek myth: Eurydice was, of course, Orpheus’s wife and the goal of his ill-fated rescue mission to the underworld. However, the piece was also strongly influenced by Thomas Hardy’s 1914 poem "The Voice." - Alex Burtzos @alexburtzos

The UMKC Conservatory Wind Ensemble had the incredible opportunity to connect via Zoom with composer Alex Burtzos to discuss his work D[RAM]EDY
Students engaged in a conversation about the inspiration behind the piece and the creative process that shaped it. There’s nothing quite like hearing directly from the composer to deepen interpretation and bring the music to life.
Thank you, Alex, for sharing your time and insight with us! 🎶🔥
