With this year's Aerospace Propulsion Outreach Program (APOP) event well below the horizon, it's time we look forward to next year's challenge.💪 For those unfamiliar, APOP is a program that puts university backed engineering students to work attempting to modify small gas turbine engines to innovate on current turbine engine designs. And they get an expert mentor from within the government to assist up until the 18th annual conference poster session takes place. Check out how you, or someone you know, can apply today before the May, 31st deadline via our link in our bio.⬆️⬆️⬆️ #AFResearchLab | #USAirForce | #APOP27 | #StudentOpportunities

#ICYMI, AFRL has stepped into it's most significant change since it's formation almost 30 years ago! This effort is supported by two key pillars, guiding both present and future plans for the organization to accelerate the delivery of war-winning systems: 🔹Vision: Win the Future (again, again,..again)! 🔹Mission: to Discover, Develop and Deliver high-impact science & technology for air, space and cyber domains. That's why AFRL is restructuring into seven mission-focused organizations, allowing for more seamless integration with the acquisition community, improve overall responsiveness and to eliminate duplicative overhead. All of this while retaining technical expertise to better position the lab to deliver battlespace advantage. Read more about the new mission organizations and the ethos behind this exciting new epoch in our bio. #AFResearchLab | #AirForce | #SpaceForce | #AFRLRedesign | #WintheFuture

AFRL played a critical role in the @NASA Artemis II mission to the moon. From specialized expertise to advanced testing facilities, the lab was instrumental in boosting mission readiness and enhancing astronaut safety for this historic milestone. “Our mission revolves around supporting the human element, which is at the core of every operation. From advanced testing to groundbreaking research, our work is designed to enhance readiness, safety and well-being. Whether in the unforgiving environments of space or on challenging battlefields, this is how AFRL drives mission success.” - Col. Dale Harrell, Commander of the 711th Human Performance Wing From specialized centrifuge training to facilitating vital industry partnerships, these contributions helped achieve the nation’s ambitious goals for human space exploration. #ICYMI, AFRL and a myriad other groups across Wright Patterson Air Force Base hosted the first All Star Leadership Day, an event dedicated to and made for enterprising high school students to see what career opportunities exist within the @usairforce . Attendees toured through multiple spaces within area A of the base to get a better grasp of just what happens on base. For our part, AFRL's display involved a virtual reality parachute simulator, pilot instructional training device, wearables and plenty of hands-on STEM related activities. Check out how the event went courtesy of @daytondailynews via the link in our bio. #AFResearchLab | #WPAFB | #AllStarLeadershipDay | #AimHighWrightPatt | #AirForce

The future arrives fast. To WIN IT, AFRL is evolving even faster. We are launching our most significant organizational change in nearly 30 years. Our mission is clear: integrate and align our research enterprise to accelerate the delivery of war-winning systems. To improve responsiveness, we are restructuring into seven highly integrated, mission-focused organizations: • Air Warfare • Space Warfare • Information and Spectrum Warfare • Foundational Technology • Technology Transition • Systems Technology • 711th Human Performance Wing The redesign strengthens collaboration across the lab to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of high-impact technologies for strategic advantage. Impressed by AFRL's 17th annual Aerospace Propulsion Outreach Program (APOP) event last week? Then it's time to start looking into next year's challenge and how you can take part.📝 To apply, you'll need to either be a current university student or faculty member to make the case for your school before the May 31st deadline. From there, the challenge, which centers on pushing these student led teams to find out-of-the-box solutions to current turbine engines via the testing and modification of small gas turbine engine will begin this September. Your team will even get a dedicated Air Force engineer to assist. Learn more about the AFRL, @AFMC and @AFLCMC run event itself and the application process via the application link in our bio.🧑‍💻 #AFResearchLab | #AFRLAPOP | #APOP | #AirForce

AFRL’s own Dr. Sukrith Dev has officially been named the @usairforce 2025 Laboratory Scientist for the third quarter! Those who receive this recognition are either scientists or engineers making significant progress on technologies that aid the @deptofwar current operational needs. Dr. Dev’s pioneering work in the study of infrared detection coupled with research involving microwave photonics and topological photonics boosted his name to the top of the list. Join us in congratulating Dr. Dev’s critical contribution to the DoW as a whole and to his continued successes within the Lab. #AFResearchLab | #AFRLPersonnel | #Photonics | #USAirForce
