I am constantly striving to build a unique visual world. For me, if the work doesn’t transform me as an artist, I don’t know how to exist in this field. I’ll admit, I feel a sting of jealousy toward those who can repeat the same formula just to keep up financially but art isn’t a financial valley to me. Whenever the industry talks only of money, I think of William S. Burroughs: “And what does the money machine eat? It eats youth, spontaneity, life, beauty and above all, it eats quality. It shit out of quantity.” I haven’t learned how to have “creative sympathy” for a bottle of lotion or soap. In an ecosystem where stakeholders often exploit a filmmaker’s passion, we have to survive by creating our own peace outside the capitalist market. It’s a fight against the system, but it’s the only way to truly live inside a creative world. I am beyond grateful to share that I have been selected for the ASC Vision Mentorship Program. For me, ASC has always been more than a society, it’s been a school, an inspiration, and a community I dreamed of joining. For the last eight years, I’ve read every ASC book and magazine each month, participated in online events, and even joined one of their masterclasses. To now be welcomed into their mentorship is a true blessing. This journey taught me one thing: Learn, Grow, Connect. I’ve tried for the last four years to reach this moment, and every step, whether big or small, was worth it. I want to thank God, My family, my crew who have walked this long road with me, the directors who trusted me with their creative visions, and my friends who always encouraged me to take things further. As far as I know two filmmakers owed this amazing camera 🎥 I photographed an old man in the quiet shadows of his home, lit only by a single source.
