Hold me down.. Where to start?
It’s 20 hours from call time on set and @luxuriousthomas and I are on an airplane. I’m skin to skin with an enormous Italian man who’s had 3 glasses of red and is now in a deep sleep, slowly sliding further and further towards me as I work tirelessly on my laptop. The Shining is on his screen.
We touch down in LA. Tinsel Town. Hop in the Jeep and straight to location for a recce, a beautiful Malibu home up in the clouds with a breathtaking view, dodgy wifi and priceless original floorboards which the owner informs me if damaged I am personally liable for their repair - fab.
A sleep-free night and then boom - it’s shoot time. There’s always an air of tension when you’re doing a one take. Particularly when it’s sunset dependent, and particularly when it’s on film. The lack of sleep was catching up with me. I was nervous, expecting problems.
But then Stormzy arrives and is the calmest in the building. He’s personable, kind, creative, open. Reminding us of what it’s all about. People are feeding off that spirit, myself included. It was organic, one of those moments. Right time, right place.
The sun sets until it drops into the ocean, but not before we capture an intimate take of this beautiful track which I still cannot stop listening to..

Producing is mad.
I’ve been working on a series of projects in AlUla and one of them required a drone sequence, filming the famous rock formations in the surrounding desert. After scrambling around for a local drone pilot, I get pointed in the direction of @flashstudiosofficial - Aaqib. Finally, the day before I’m supposed to fly out, we have a call. I’m tense. Where can we shoot? When can we shoot? How will this fit into our schedule? What approvals do we need? He’s in the middle of at least 2 other conversations and tells me “don’t worry, it’s going to be fine.” We agree a day and time and that’s it.
The weather is hot and our schedule is tight, not a great combo. Our meeting point is on the side of a road on the outskirts of town. We link up and drive in convoy until the road runs out. Aaqib hops out and starts adjusting the pressure on his tyres, he tells us to all pile into his car - we’re going into the desert.
The rest of the day and night are an odyssey, during which we find out that Aaqib is not just a drone pilot. He’s a skilled off roader, an outdoorsman, a long distance athlete, a free climber, an astrologist, a hotel owner, a father.. and a few other things. We go deep into the dessert and capture some beautiful footage. He tells us about the desert, its magic, and is then generous enough to show us one of his favourite spots. It’s breathtaking. We spend the night under the stars.
A reminder to go with the flow. Enjoy the journey. Don’t try and force it all the time. Stay cosmic, stay open.
