“One step at a time.” is a series exploring the deep bond between Emma and her mother. Through consistent anti-portraiture, her mother’s identity remains hidden, emphasising their connection beyond the visible. The weaving technique passed down from mother to daughter, becomes a symbolic thread of heritage—rooted in their ancestry and the history of her mother’s family’s old printing shop in Hong Kong.
Photo Portrait Now is a National Portrait Gallery partnership project in collaboration with six universities from across England and Wales that explores contemporary portrait photography.
The programme connects students with the NPG Collection, curators and contemporary photographers through talks, workshops and tours. Students are invited to make their own photographic portraits, and respond to the works and themes in the Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize, with the project culminating in a showcase of student work and symposium at the National Portrait Gallery.
