Public art with a game plan š
Travis Young (@travmsk ) for @brandedarts
Iāve been trying to reconnect with my passion for shooting again. Being home full-time with a baby makes my free moments feel so limited, and honestly, when I do get them, all I want to do is nothing.
I finally got out of the house and took some shots. In the moment they always feel so goodālike this is it. But when I get home and start going through them, I end up feeling disappointed with most of what I captured.
Even when I do find a shot I love, itās not as fulfilling as I imagine itāll be. The disappointment from the others somehow overpowers that creative high.
Still, Iām showing up for it again.
@travmsk just finished his latest mural with @brandedarts for Horace Mannās centennial celebration š For his first basketball court project, he made the vision even bigger by bringing the artwork onto the backboard, hoop, and net. Itās my new favorite.
Last year, Trav lived in the studio. Ten-plus hour days, almost every day. And I wonāt sugarcoat it ā it was lonely being home with a baby. People donāt always see that part. The sacrifice isnāt just his. Itās mine too.
We thought stepping back from murals and focusing on studio work would mean more time together, but it actually did the opposite. Most mornings he was gone before we even woke up and wouldnāt get home until dinner. Often, heād call and ask me to keep baby Travis up past his bedtime just so he could squeeze in a few minutes with him.
What makes it harder is that Travis wanted nothing more than to be with his son. (If youāve met our little guy, you understand š„¹.) But he also understood the bigger picture. He made a commitment to this show, and honoring his word is just who he is.
And now⦠here we are. The final days of his first international show, in beautiful Tokyo, Japan. I couldnāt be more proud. The work is incredible. His attention to detail is unmatched. Watching his vision and perfectionism come to life has been something really special.
š« Todayās the big day. š« Congratulations @travmsk on your first solo international show šÆšµ @megumiogitagallery #TravisYoung #tokyo #japan
We gave away a $7,000 painting for our very first drop.
This raffle was honestly more meaningful to me than most of you probably realize.
I come from public muralsāwhere people get to experience the work without having to deal with the commerce of art. Being able to give away a studio painting felt like a full-circle moment.
This video is us wrapping it at the studio and handing it off to the winner.
Endless gratitude to everyone who supported drop one.
More drops, more raffles, and more giveaways coming very soon. š¤
