Songwriter and harpist Elias Shane ’26 MM draws inspiration from folk, chamber music, and avant-garde styles to create his sound! In our latest Studio Session, Elias gave us a sneak peek of his upcoming second album, joined by cellist Chih-Yi Joy Chu ’26 GD and percussionist Yilin Chen ’26 MM. Elias is part of NEC’s Contemporary Musical Arts Department.
i am a happy boy when i am around music and luckily, 2025 was full of that. to recount just some of the wonderful experiences i had this year, i got to:
• make a record with @bencuomo that i cannot wait to put out
• play a solo set to an amazing crowd at the Boston Public Library
• travel to Vienna to meet and work and explore with a group of incredible musicians
• drop two of my fave songs i’ve written - “Handsome” and “Westlands”
• play more shows than i ever have, starting with headlining one of my fave venues in NYC
• create & premiere “STRUMS”, me & @chaialeh ’s orignal piece for harp and electronics
not too shabby when i see it like that ! if you are someone that i got to make music with, or that came to one of my shows, or listened to my songs, or that i got to talk to and gave me something to think about, thank u very much for the best year of my life, i love u, u make life worth living.

my new song WESTLANDS is out now on @bandcamp 🌄🏞️🌅 soooo happy to finally put this one out, it was one of the first songs i wrote on harp three years ago and it has had quite the journey since then.
i wanted to put this out exclusively for Bandcamp Friday because i want to find more ways to encourage meaningful interactions with music outside of streaming. it’s up for free download so it can be YOURS! i hope it gives you a chance to have a special experience with this song.
