#DOOD_Central is a contemporary addition to a beautiful heritage home. Re-use of existing brick pavers in the facade was a key driver for the design. They were painted and bagged to create a subtle texture. You would never know they were old red bricks 😀

The metal cladding forms a continuous skin that defines the building.
On a site exposed to rain, salt, sun and wind, often within the same day, durability was essential. @unicotesteel Lux Corten Red was selected for its corrosion resistance and depth of tone. Unlike traditional Corten, it maintains consistency over time while withstanding harsh coastal conditions. The result is a resilient outer shell that endures the intensity of the coast without losing depth of tone.

The house was imagined as almost geological in nature. Responding to planning constraints, Fairhaven sits low and grounded in tone, composed as a singular mass against the terrain.
Rather than projecting outward, it settles into the landscape, shaped by context rather than imposed upon it. The form aligns with the weathered character of the coastline, allowing the land to remain primary.
