In a moment where struggles for liberation at home and abroad are deeply intertwined, and where it feels increasingly unsafe to gather, grieve, celebrate and make art together, we are being called to fiercely protect our underground scenes and cultural practices.
Peopleās Soundsystem is bringing together a number of community leaders to address issues facing our nightlife spaces such as artwashing, community accountability, cooperativizing and cross-border underground infrastructures, among others.
We are excited to be partnering with dublab, a homegrown LA radio station and a pillar of community across multiple artistic scenes, as they provide the space for this conference and continue to invest heavily in these conversations and opportunities through the medium of radio. We celebrate being in collaboration with orgs such as Subvert, Living Earth, The Death of Glitter, TraTraTrax, The Chapter House, Artists Against Apartheid and more!
How can we ensure that our spaces remain protected and politicized? How do we use our sound systems to push and inspire messages of collective liberation?
We look forward to exploring these concepts with you through panels and workshops hosted by Jasmine Nyende, BAE BAE, DRAGMOTHER and NYKSAN, to name a few.
Tickets are limited due to capacity with multiple tiers available to accommodate a range of needs.
See you soon ššš
Who Owns the Noise? A nightlife conference produced by Peopleās Soundsystem & dublab

Peopleās Soundsystem is a project started by artists for Palestinian liberation in LA that centers nightlife workers such as DJs, musicians, bouncers, bartenders, custodians, and venues. We are organizing around real ways to use our skills, networks, and creativity to build the movement for justice and liberation⦠from Palestine to right here at home, in the lineage of DJs Against Apartheid in NYC.
This conference is a call back to a DIY conference several of us hosted at LACAN in 2020 called āKnow Your Fight, Know Your Rights.ā That gathering brought together over 150 participants and addressed nightlife issues like art-washingās contribution to gentrification, safety, and policing in our art and music communities. We teamed up with Stop LAPD Spying Coalition after an underground show with many QTBIPOC show-goers was violently raided by police in 2019.
This time around, weāve teamed up with Artists Against Apartheid to contextualize these issues within a larger framework of collectivized and politicized artists, show-goers, and hosts, through music, speakers, workshops, and discussions focused on cooperativizing, resisting, and politicizing our cultural spaces.
Stay tuned.
