IT'S SOMETHING, BUT IT WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH
If you're white you are born into debt. We will die with this debt.
This debt is white privilege, and it can never truly be repaid.
We continue to benefit from an infrastructure and economy that is built on the spoils of slavery, colonialism and white supremacy.
We continue to benefit from the cultural narratives that positions your place in society and the value of your life above those of black people.
We continue to benefit from the freedom of not being murdered or imprisoned by the state disproportionately to white people.
We continue to be the direct beneficiaries of racism.
Consider for one moment the additional mental, emotional and physical resources it takes just to EXIST as a black person in the US or UK.
This doesn't even begin to cover it.
In case it's not clear, I fully support the action being taken by people in the US against police, who are a operating as a unregulated militia in what is essentially a dictatorship.
Until members of our community are being murdered by the state with impunity, we have no right to tell those people how they should respond.
Silence is complicity, educate yourself on what racism is, what it looks like, how it operates and listen to the experiences of black people.
Finally, those of you who can afford to, pay up.
We’re past due.
