Exhibition Announcement 📣 On the Verge / On the Cusp 🔮 asks what does it mean to be on the precipice of change? Is it about the potential for renewal, or the looming possibility of letdown? Showcasing eight London-based emerging artists, the exhibition explores transformative moments of flux informed by fem and non-binary experiences.

Join us for the opening event on Saturday 1st February from 5pm! This exhibition will be on display at PAUSE/FRAME (194 The Broadway SW19 1RY), located in the KOPPEL Broadway building in Wimbledon.
PAUSE/FRAME is The Koppel Project’s gallery initiative aiming to find innovative ways to produce engaging exhibitions that challenge the systemic barriers often blocking creative efforts. Our goal with this space is to expand our audiences and communities, working to survive within the current funding climate in the arts and the difficult structures that artists rely on for support!

As we stay “On the verge”, we near the brink of collapse. There is fear in motion, a breath is caught and held, and the breaking point makes itself known. In contrast, “on the cusp” signals the hopeful promise of the uncertain, the fragile passage towards clarity. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences of uncertainty —whether facing emotional crossroads, moments of catharsis, or navigating life transitions—this exhibition explores the generative potential between belonging and un-belonging, creation and doubt, and the personal and external structures that shape transformation. Bringing together painting, sculpture, installation, and performance, the artists respond to concepts of change and uncertainty in regards to gender expression, youth culture, intergenerational communication, and the interior shifts of the human psyche.
bringing this gem back from 2020, “the misbehaving chair”.
the brief asked us to reimagine a simple IKEA chair according to our theme of choice. exploring the theme of misbehaviour, we thought about ways in which we can manipulate the chair so it encourages ‘unacceptable’ or ‘impolite’ ways of sitting (mainly in reference to academic and professional settings). the misbehaving chair folds, tilts, and includes a foot rest, all so the sitter can be on their worst behaviour. a very fun project with lots of trial-and-error.

final project int des y3 2022 - “the hub”
an information paradise of sorts, rearticulating the use of tracking technologies in a public space. the basic idea is for tracking data (channeled through various devices such as security cameras, wifi, polls, etc.) to be translated into creative, informative public displays about crowd density and movement. doubling as spaces for shelter and rest in a country where it rains often (yet there is somehow very little shelter other than bus stops), the project started off site-specific and moved into a more modular interpretation (seen in last slide).
/also doubling as an experiment for space usage and data collection, this proposal aims to reinvent public spaces in a post-pandemic digital era.

/there is a glimpse of the grid structure in one of the latter photos which i find both pleasant to look at and annoying in relation to the process and time taken to create

unit 8 public interior - retail, int design y2 (2021)
this collaborative project aimed to use the plans and renders provided by architects fletcher priest in creating a retail space in the building at 1 sherwood street in piccadilly circus. this building is known to most as the billboard building in piccadilly circus, formerly also called monico building.
my idea for this project focused heavily on flexibility and transparency, using a gridded structure with detachable elements to achieve this. it is best suited for pop-up viewings, and it can accommodate the display of different products, giving the retailer freedom in setting up. i was inspired by the works of architects shigeru ban and kengo kuma.
/one of my first attempts at rendering. it accidentally rendered the plant in picture 2 as a mass of papers with plant prints, but i thought it looked quite charming. the transparent bathroom in picture 3 is based on the design by shigeru ban, in which the bathroom walls turn opaque when the bathroom is occupied!
