A little over two years ago Liliya approached me with a script that was inspired by her first time visiting home since the beginning of Russia’s full scale invasion. That summer, I travelled to Kyiv to shoot the film with her alongside a cast and crew of insanely talented Ukrainians. Despite the challenging circumstances, both the art and film community in Ukraine continue to make work and engage in creative projects. In a way, Liliya wanted this film to be a reflection of that resistance: of life and love persisting in the face of unbelievable destruction. Some of my favourite stills from “Lost Wax” Directed by Omorose Osagie and shot over the course of some very hot days in Ibadan, Nigeria! The film follows a local bronze caster after a young girl goes missing from her apartment complex. It traces the connection between the disappearance of Edo girls from Benin City and the stolen art of the Benin kingdom.
