Mike Pennekamp is an artist, illustrator, and printmaker currently living in Chicago, Illinois. His work is influenced and inspired by the history of conspiracy theory, revisionist narratives, and instances of High Strangeness in a post-truth American landscape.
Fueled by black coffee and a DIY punk ethos, Mike utilizes the highly graphic quality of relief printmaking and screenprint to build a visual language rooted in the vernacular of 90’s era alt-comix, zines, skateboard graphics, and album art. These influences further inform Mike’s traditional studio practice through an expanded field of t-shirts, enamel pins, and printed ephemera.
Lauren B @made.by.lauren.b is returning to SEEING DOUBLE! Only a few more days! This Saturday, 11am - 6pm at “The 5thFloor” 1106 Santa Fe KCMO 64101 ⚡️
Lauren B. is a folk artist & shrine builder based in Chicago, IL. She applies screen-print & relief printing with 100% salvaged & second-hand materials to create art that is aggressively anti-capitalist, zero-waste, & cruelty-free.
She’s inspired by tacky kitsch, flea market nostalgia, and living her politics of universal liberation. There’s no ethical consumption under capitalism, but her work is about as close as you can get!
Amy Travis @amytravisprints is trekking all the way from STL to show her work at SEEING DOUBLE! This Saturday, March 21st 11am - 6pm at “The 5th Floor” 1106 Santa Fe st KCMO 64101

Looking forward to seeing @maddyt.art Maddy Thurman’s work at SEEING DOUBLE! This Saturday 11am - 6pm at 1106 Santa Fe st. In Kansas City’s West Bottoms!
As an artist, my work tackles uncomfortable subjects, twisting them to be humorous while not losing their true nature. With a focus on women’s rights, politics, and personal experience, each piece tackles a unique thought, idea, or memory with imagery, style, and medium changing with each subject. As a recurring theme in my work, fish often symbolize the treatment of women throughout cultural history. This purposeful and playful motif brings the light-hearted and reflective quality to my works, effectively blending some of my favorite things with my least favorite things. My imagery sparks thought in ways that entertain, engage, and compel the viewer to think deeper than imagery or material alone, allowing them to come away with a unique reflection on each piece.
