Turned 30, steak for 2, and maybe a gift or two, yay! Day barely passed and I’m already panicking about 40. Fought too much to prove what doesn’t matter. Thought only a little bit sad, about“Time” being an uncontrollable invisible electric current moving through your body. Maybe 20 is all cringy and naive… but who gives a fuck? (Maybe just a little?) ||||||||: Got The Eight of Wands for my 30!

Opening Saturday, April 19th from 5–7pm @ 52 Allen — ‘War Goes Straight to Their Tummies’ curated by wei featuring work by Peggy Chiang, Mariana Ramos Ortiz, and Jung Won Lee. April 19th: Opening Performance 6 PM by Femi Shonuga-Fleming. May 10th: Tofu Activation by Helen Ip. “War Goes Straight to Their Tummies” is a group exhibition that explores the concept of Abjection, drawing from a mistranslation of the French phrase “la guerre porte aux ovaires” in Julia Kristeva’s Power of Horror: An Essay on Abjection. The phrase, which translates more accurately as “women in wartime,” was once misinterpreted as “war goes straight to the tummies” — a visceral, bodily reconfiguration that speaks to the physicality of trauma, miscommunication, and interpretation.    Each artist in the exhibition responds to this twice-translated notion of Abjection through site-specific practices, engaging the gallery space as a site of rupture, decay, resistance, and renewal. @peggy__wendy @la.habichuela @leewondear @sadnoise_ @herroherroherren

“untitled (tape)” series are on view @risdmuseum in the Paula and Leonard Granoff Gallery as part of the “Poetry of Everyday Life” section of Art and Design from 1900 to Now. These prints were acquired by the Department of Print, Drawings and Photographs in 2022. So very pleased to see them framed and up for view. Stop by before September this year to see. LABEL COPY These screenprints on handmade mulberry paper feature images of blue tape playfully expressing itself through different lengths, shapes, and severity of tear. wei Wang’s composition centers and isolates each piece, granting us a new way of viewing material typically used in a supporting role. In Wang’s work, ephemeral materials such as the blue tape become metaphorical time capsules of memory and identity. The artist explains: My approach to creating is through the lens of being an alien and queer in unfamiliar environments and given spaces. . . . Highlighting the integrity of my chosen materials and sources of information are a big part of my creative process, especially when most of the materials are commonly considered secondary and ephemeral. –Lana Wang, THAD Fellow, Prints, Drawings, and Photographs Department, 2023; RISD BFA 2024, Illustration Special thanks to Jan Howard @janhowardrisd and Conor Moynihan @cg.moy for making this happen, and kind words from Lana Wang. A very late recap of my time @narsfoundation Still processing how much happened after 2 seasons, 2 exhibitions and 2 amazing cohorts, I would not trade this experience with anything else. Thank you everyone who passed by my studio, had coffee/lunch/dinner/snacks with me, came to the openings and open studios, critiqued my work, took a selfie in front the mirror, watch my silly little procrastinating stories, shared some juicy gossips and many many many many more… really, thank you for your support and your presences. Special thanks to the staff team, Program Manager Katherine @katherine.plourde Program Coordinator Eve @arthistory555 and Curatorial Fellow Shuang Cai @fkialmostforgot P.s. All New Work and Recording are now live on my website, and a fellowship interview via NARS’s website. Image 1: A nice bright shadow casted on the 3rd floor.
