Students in our Animation and Game Art program had the incredible opportunity to meet with industry professionals from Warner Bros., Walt Disney, 20th TV Animation, Adult Swim, and other incredible artists and studios for virtual portfolio reviews this past week! Our Animation and Game Art Faculty, along with Artists at Work, invited recruiters and professionals from all corners of the Animation and Games industries to meet our students over Google Meet for one-on-one meetings, helping them perfect their portfolios using invaluable feedback while making vital connections that will guide them through their professional lives, all without leaving Portland, Maine! Want to explore what MECA&D has to offer for Animation and Game Art students? Follow the link in bio.

Last weekend, our staff, faculty, and students walked together in the Portland Pride Parade! The group marched behind a banner that was crafted by our very own community. The parade was routed directly below our Pride Window murals, which were designed by BFA students Sawyer Strouth, Hunter Hamilton, Grim Medina, and Jai Santoro! 📸: Ezra Rose and Natalie Conn

As our students and graduates settle into summer break and post-grad life, we’re looking back on the incredible school year we shared. From student exhibition openings to welcoming our creative community through the holiday sale and fashion show, to hosting our animation and film festival, this year was filled with collaboration, creativity, and growth. It’s been inspiring to witness everything our students accomplished over two semesters, and we’re endlessly grateful for a community that continues to show up for one another in such meaningful ways. We hope you have a restful and inspiring break!

Maine College of Art & Design welcomed James Edmonsen, founder of OH no Type company, for an artist talk and workshop! James visited our Typography III class to teach Graphic Design and Illustration students about TypeCooker, a hands-on, constraints-based type design training program. Each part of the workshop is a structured exercise designed to teach designers how to draw typefaces by providing specific "recipes" or parameters for designing letterforms. MECA&D Instructor Amy Parker spoke about the experience, saying, "What an opportunity for Graphic Design and Illustration students! As one of the most prolific working type designers in the field today, James Edmondson brought us the 'TypeCooker' workshop to introduce letterform drawing. We practiced forming letters through a series of small, timed exercises to understand scale, proportion, mood, tone, and concept – the 'why' behind developing shape languages." "Art is not just decoration. Art is not just escape. Art is intervention. Art is how we document injustice. Art is how we imagine alternatives. Art is how we insist on humanity when the world forgets it. Art is how we fall in love with life again and again. So after this ceremony, do not practice your craft casually. Practice it as if lives depend on it, because they do." - BFA Class Speaker, Jakob Flores Figueroa '26 (@splitznico ) Congratulations to the Maine College of Art & Design Class of 2026! #mecad #graduation2026 #mat #MAEd #MFA #BFA
