LA-based director Pasqual Gutierrez is making his film dreams come true—literally. The concept for his latest feature film, Serious People, came to him in a dream one night. The next morning he sent a voice note to friend and co-director Ben Mullinkosson: “…it would be a hybrid experimental-vérité-documentary film, starring myself, as I look for a doppelgänger to play me so that I can take paternal leave from work after my baby is born.” In line with our upcoming issue theme “alias,” 4N contributor Joyce Keokham interviewed Pasqual and Ben to discuss the film. Read the interview at the link in our bio! Interview by Joyce Keokham @fuqr 📷 Stills from Serious People: 1. Miguel Huerta (left) as Pasqual Gutierrez, next to the real Pasqual Gutierrez (right) 2&3. Pasqual holds an audition to find his doppelgänger 4. Pasqual and his wife, Christine Yuan

Built by immigrants, for immigrants — @4nmag is showcasing what an “extraordinary alien” looks like. 🌍 So many creatives shaping culture today are navigating seemingly impossible red tape. 4N meets that reality with humor, heart, and real resources. This one’s worth the read. 🗂️❤️ #4NMagazine #ItsWorthTheRead #immigrantstories @specialspecial @wenyoupostagram @pannyc @fuqr Artists mentioned: @cara_cyy @alicewudesign @aliceewu_ @longmuse_ 🎥 @willcmun

Meet our 4N issue 4 artist! 🔍 Trista Mingwei Zhong @mingwei.art is a New York-based artist whose practice interrogates the intersection of cultural memory, digital materiality, and feminist discourse through film, installation, and new media. In this issue, Trista re-imagined Nüshu, a historical "women-only" coded script used by ethnic Han, Yao, Miao women to express their intimate thoughts to others. Through her radical approach to digital cultural archiving, Trista creates immersive interventions that interrogate the relationships between heritage, collective memory, and emerging technologies, examining questions of preservation and identity in our hyper-mediated world. Holding a dual master's degree in Design Engineering from Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she navigates the liminal space between technological innovation and ancestral wisdom.
