Connecting two photographic showcases — “To Tibet” at @wurearea and “Between grain, ink, and pages”, a pop-up reading room at @121bookstudio —> a Conversation on The Poetics of Printing: with Wu Chi-long from @photospectrum_hk and alexlau from @thememmac Moderated by Michelle Chan . Join us for a conversation on the creative space of darkroom and risograph printing in photography. This talk brings together two photographic showcases — “To Tibet” at @wurearea and “Between grain, ink, and pages”, a pop-up reading room at @121bookstudio — to explore printing as more than a technical process. Through darkroom and risograph methods, Wu Chi-Long from Photospectrum and alex from the memory machine will discuss how image-making, colour, paper, layering, and chance shape the final work. Moderated by Michelle Chan, founder of 1:1 studio, the conversation will also consider how printing influences the form and reading of photographs in exhibitions, photobooks, and zines, while opening up questions around materiality, control, and creative freedom. Registration Link:https://forms.gle/tkpEmRG4yAebgVPJ6

Between grain, ink, and pages a pop-up reading room on risograph photobooks co-curated by alexlau (@thememmac ) and Michelle Chan (@little.rice ) Every photobook is an act of layering. In risograph printing, an image emerges through a vertical stacking of ink—an accumulation of distinct tonal passes. From the logic of colour separation to the physical order of the press, each decision reshapes the visual narrative. This pop-up reading room explores the “layered” philosophy of book-making. We invite you to deconstruct the assembled risograph photobooks and discover how the organic printing grains and the unique character of the duplicator elevate the art of visual storytelling. 閱讀室詳情 Reading Room details: 日期 Date:10.04.2026 - 19.04.2026 時間 Time:Friday to Monday 13:00 - 19:00 地點 Venue:1:1 studio, Inside WURE AREA, Unit 707, 7/F, Block B Po Lung Centre 11 Wang Chiu Road Kowloon Bay 九龍灣宏照道11號寶隆中心B座7樓707室 WURE AREA內 1:1 studio *DM @121bookstudio to visit on Tuesdays to Thursdays; Opening & A Conversation on The Poetics of Printing: with alex from the memory machine and Wu Chi-long from photospectrum 日期 Date:11.04.2026 (Sat) 時間 Time:16:00-18:00 語言 Language: Chinese 中文 預約 Registration Link:https://forms.gle/tkpEmRG4yAebgVPJ6 工作室與展場導賞 Artist Studio Visit + Showcase Guided Tour 日期 Date:19.04.2026 (Sun) 時間 Time:16:30 - 19:00 費用 Fee: $100/pp 人數 Max: 8 people 預約 Registration Link:https://forms.gle/xkvcmoWxHXe74gBy7

Throughout history, women have quietly edited, organised, and narrated family albums — creating intimate “domestic photobooks.” In this 2.5-hour workshop led by artist Michelle Chan (@little.rice ) and photographer Jayne Russell (@jaynerusell ), we will explore photo albums made by mothers, commercial photographers and artists. We will also learn basic sequencing, and transform your own family photos into a 12- or 16-page zine that tells a story about your family. *bring your digital family images + laptop Registration Link:link in bio (https://forms.gle/7BXS6uYhi7fbmMCF7) - * a related programme of the pop-up reading room: The Third Body: Between Her and Her Creation 《第三身體——在她與她的創作之間》 臨時閱讀室相關活動 閱讀室詳情 Reading Room details: 日期 Date:23.01.2026 - 08.02.2026  時間 Time:Friday to Monday 13:00 - 19:00 地點 Venue:1:1 studio, Inside WURE AREA, Unit 707, 7/F, Block B Po Lung Centre 11 Wang Chiu Road Kowloon Bay 九龍灣宏照道11號寶隆中心B座7樓707室 WURE AREA內 1:1 studio  *DM @121bookstudio to visit on Tuesdays to Thursdays; 星期二至四到訪請先聯絡 @121bookstudio visual created by Tracy Cheng (@tumnucy )

I’m not a mother, yet as an artist, a maker, I can somehow relate to the journey of giving birth, to the nurturance of bringing something into being. The vast emotional landscapes of gestation—vulnerability, pain, fear, loneliness, and labour… as well as moments of joy, love, wonder, excitement, and care. There are times I would want to give up, yet I never truly do. For all these are woven into the creative act, the very process of making. Perhaps that, too, is the quiet power of mothering—of being a mother. - The Third Body: Between Her and Her Creation a pop up reading room about remembering her: Mothers in Photobooks The collection gathers works from across the world that centre on mothers as artists, and artists as bookmakers, delving into the realm of the third body — where memories, loss, motherhood, intergenerational relationships, domesticity, and care unfold through the pages they make. 閱讀室詳情 Reading Room details: 日期 Date:23.01.2026 - 08.02.2026  時間 Time:Friday to Monday 13:00 - 19:00 地點 Venue:1:1 studio, Inside WURE AREA, Unit 707, 7/F, Block B Po Lung Centre 11 Wang Chiu Road Kowloon Bay 九龍灣宏照道11號寶隆中心B座7樓707室 WURE AREA內 1:1 studio  *DM @121bookstudio to visit on Tuesdays to Thursdays;

Join us for a discussion on the symbolism of the family album in motherhood, focusing on how mothers “edit” family memories through photos, and their changed role in the digital age. We will discuss the mother’s role as the emotional historian, image editor, and silent curator of what becomes the family’s official story and discuss whether their curation becomes performative to present the perfect family. Jayne (@jaynerussell ), the founder of @photobooks_by_women , will be joined by curator, Michelle Chan (@little.rice ), to discuss the birth of this initiative and the process of curating this pop-up reading room. Artist, Iris Sham Sin Hang (@irissham.photo ), will also join to discuss her experience of producing her latest book- ‘Oh My Dear Swallows’,  - “an intimate photobook that weaves together family archives, fragments from my childhood diaries, and photographs spanning more than two decades. At its core lies the profound, often contradictory emotional landscape of motherhood—both received and bestowed—interlaced with the elusive notion of homeland. Registration Link:link in bio (https://forms.gle/J9nW3ebTPZC1xK397) * a related programme of the pop-up reading room: The Third Body: Between Her and Her Creation 《第三身體——在她與她的創作之間》 臨時閱讀室相關活動 閱讀室詳情 Reading Room details: 日期 Date:23.01.2026 - 08.02.2026  時間 Time:Friday to Monday 13:00 - 19:00 地點 Venue:1:1 studio, Inside WURE AREA, Unit 707, 7/F, Block B Po Lung Centre 11 Wang Chiu Road Kowloon Bay 九龍灣宏照道11號寶隆中心B座7樓707室 WURE AREA內 1:1 studio  *DM @121bookstudio to visit on Tuesdays to Thursdays; 星期二至四到訪請先聯絡 @121bookstudio visual created by Tracy Cheng (@tumnucy )

The Third Body: Between Her and Her Creation How does a mother become a mother? How do women — as mothers, or as observers of motherhood and caregiving — negotiate their own positions and perspectives within larger narratives of family and community through acts of photo album-making and book-making? 1:1 studio presents its first pop-up reading room, featuring a curated selection of women authors from @photobooks_by_women . The collection gathers works from across the world that centre on mothers as artists, and artists as bookmakers, delving into the realm of the third body — where memories, loss, motherhood, intergenerational relationships, domesticity, and care unfold through the pages they make. 閱讀室詳情 Reading Room details: 日期 Date:23.01.2026 - 08.02.2026  時間 Time:Friday to Monday 13:00 - 19:00 地點 Venue:1:1 studio, Inside WURE AREA, Unit 707, 7/F, Block B Po Lung Centre 11 Wang Chiu Road Kowloon Bay 九龍灣宏照道11號寶隆中心B座7樓707室 WURE AREA內 1:1 studio  *DM @121bookstudio to visit on Tuesdays to Thursdays; Opening & A Conversation on Collecting, Curating and Practicing 日期 Date:24.01.2026 (Sat) 時間 Time:16:00-18:00 預約 Registration Link:link in bio (https://forms.gle/J9nW3ebTPZC1xK397) 攝影誌工作坊 Crafting Your Own Domestic Photozine 日期 Date:08.02.2026 (Sun) 時間 Time:16:30 - 19:00 預約 Registration Link:link in bio (https://forms.gle/7BXS6uYhi7fbmMCF7)

drifting nimbus is a sculptural artist book by Angelica Ong. “I came up with this structure when I realised the accordion book resembled a folding screen and imagined small wooden frames I could stretch my prints over. Typically when building strainers for paintings, I would construct the frames with 45-degree mitred edges glued and nailed together. This method failed for this work: the surface area was too small to form strong joints, and cutting them by hand with a penknife meant they were prone to slight imperfections that prevented the edges from aligning. I then tried laser-cutting a full frame without joints, but the wood grain caused the top and bottom bars to bend and snap. Each side having to run against the grain meant every bar had to be a separate piece. I then began envisioning something like a tongue-and-groove joint, but lacked the tools and skills to create them at this scale. Instead, I devised a two-layer frame with staggered measurements such that gaps at each joint would be supported by the opposing layer and used only perpendicular cuts. I glued the first layer directly to the prints and stacked the second on top, allowing the paper itself to function as the hinge, like a traditional accordion book.” This artist book is currently showcasing at 1:1 studio. drifting nimbus photobook exhibition by Angelica Ong (@catchingsunlight_ ) 21-30 Nov 1-7pm 1:1 studio (inside @wurearea ) 22 Nov opening reception 2pm artist talk on bookmaking 3-4:30pm - I still remember the first time I encountered Angelica’s work at the 3rd edition of the Hong Kong Photobook Festival (@hkphotobookfest ) this May. Her handmade photo-artist books captivated me not only through the poignant and ephemeral quality of her images but also through the seamless integration of concept and materiality in her creations. The creative and playful use of materials in her book forms challenges traditional notions of what a photobook can be and inspired me to think more deeply about the medium itself. For this exhibition, she created a new work—a sculptural accordion book framed with very thin wooden panels and images printed on washi paper. The semi-translucent paper embraces light differently, allowing images on both sides to merge and dance under changing illumination, conjuring a fragile, dreamlike passage of time. Here, the book becomes more than pages to turn — it transforms into layers of memory and meaning, inviting the viewer to experience it simultaneously as a whole and in fragments. Beyond this centre piece, she crafted various sculptural “pages” and “spreads” that embody fragility and temporality. These pieces act as components of a deconstructed book, spread across the exhibition space like scattered echoes, inviting contemplation on the essence of the book form.

drifting nimbus  - a photobook exhibition by Angelica Ong Artist: Angelica Ong 王歆惠 (@catchingsunlight_ ) Curator: Michelle Chan 陳韻芝 drifting nimbus「透影」is a sculptural artist book that takes inspiration from the structure of a folding screen, extending across and cutting space, using film-shot images to weave its narrative. Combined with gossamer-thin washi, its translucency effuses fragility, emphasising the delicate qualities of its subject matter—cobwebs, dust, shafts of light; its porosity beckons light to pass through it, allowing images to layer one upon the other and collapse space. Through the book form, Singaporean artist Angelica imbues the images with structural and tactile qualities, inviting audiences to engage with the work’s materiality across shifting light, time, and relational contexts. Unfolding across a set of thin, light wooden frames, each image operates as part of a lexis derived from nature, articulating Angelica’s long-term inquiry into how time’s passing is felt and experienced—physically and spiritually—as well as nature’s minute gestures. 展覽詳情 Exhibition details: 日期 Date:21 - 30.11.2025  時間 Time:13:00 - 19:00 地點 Venue:1:1 studio, Inside WURE AREA, Unit 707, 7/F, Block B Po Lung Centre 11 Wang Chiu Road Kowloon Bay 九龍灣宏照道11號 寶隆中心B座7樓707室 WURE AREA內 1:1 studio  *DM @catchingsunlight_ to visit before 13:00; 13:00 前請先聯絡 @catchingsunlight_ 開幕日及藝術家分享  Opening Reception: 日期 Date:22.11.2025  時間 Time:14:00 藝術家分享  Artist Talk on Bookmaking: 日期 Date:22.11.2025  時間 Time:15:00 - 16:30 預約 Registration Link:link in bio https://forms.gle/LG8Y4aYuPtHqFBMH6 *Chinese translation of the exhibition text: Ashley Man @aaasm.w
