On 27 February, the new work Shìshēng 势声 · As Sound Splashes premiered at the V&A (@vamuseum ), London. A truly magical moment — resonating together in ebb and flow. An energy unlike anything I had felt before. Thank you to the beautiful crowd, a thousand of you who entered this field with us. It begins from a “blank score” — not a fixed composition, but an open field. Through voice, breath, strokes and sound, audience and performers write the score together in real time. Responding to the room and to one another, language dissolves. Sound becomes a shared script. For a moment, it no longer matters which country a language belongs to. Each performance forms a temporary architecture of sound.built collectively by everyone present. ‘Speaker’s’ full performance realized from natural environmental sound of the public space in Waterloo station at @sidingswaterloo curated by @ands_studio_uk Speaker’s revolves around a wearable installation that transforms the body into both microphone and amplifier—a speaking speaker. The garment integrates transducers and a compact mixing circuit, producing unstable feedback frequencies as the performer moves. Surrounding microphones, interwoven with the audience, generate a live and partially uncontrollable resonance field in which each breath and gesture reshapes relations of sound, proximity, and power. Drawing from sonic politics and public listening, the work humorously exposes the blurred boundaries between amplification, control, and vulnerability, turning feedback into a form of social choreography. In the exhibition context, Speaker’s renders structural forces as pressure and touch, translating invisible tensions—technical, institutional, interpersonal—into a shared acoustic space. Participants are invited to intervene or withdraw, continually renegotiating their positions with one another and with the apparatus. Urban dailiness is superimposed with transgressive fictions, producing contradictions: post-apocalyptic urgency tempered by joy, excess, and disarming comedy. Time unfolds as a negotiated pact between the everyday and the extraordinary, and the body emerges as a mutable interface—shaped in real time by technologies, environments, and others, among many others. Thank you for the amazing curation @other__a @leoyu029

Shìshēng 势声 · As Sound Splashes—— the sound when it’s forming, before language settles, before structure holds.where sound emerges as situation, as relation, as force in motion. So happy to bring this work into the world, to let it breathe with people, space, and unpredictability. On 27 February, premiered at the V&A @vamuseum London with a thousand audiences. Zhuyang Liu, 2025, amazing to realize it at @iklectikartlab — SPEAKERS’ brought 100 people into a live feedback system where bodies generated and shaped sound together, forming new human skin; more bodies will enter this system soon. Thanks for the videos from audiences 🫶

SPEAKER’S / new human skin Last year at @iklectikartlab in London, I built a sound system that starts from almost nothing. no clear beginning or any sound . Silence and then just breath, small movements, friction very quiet acoustic signals. As people squeezing around the space (around 100+), these tiny sounds get picked up by the mics placing around, passed between bodies, and fed back through the my skin . Sound slowly builds through everyone’s presence and movement. It doesn’t sit in one place, it shifts, leaks, and circulates. The whole room becomes a moving sound field. In only source of the sound was on the performer (the speakers) -me . In this work, the body works as infrastructure. Each person becomes a mobile unit that generates, carries, and reshapes sound. At the same time, the system is unstable.Fatigue, imbalance, physical limitation — all of these directly affect what you hear. The sound is shaped by how bodies hold, fail, support, and adjust to each other. I’ve been thinking about new human skin, instead of describing it as a wearable item. It should be the skin : Of a body that can be extended, rerouted, and reorganised. Of a body that depends on others. Of a body that doesn’t stay fixed. This connects to how I think about care, disability, colors and queer embodiment — where function can shift, where support systems become visible, and where instability is part of the structure. Sound in this work acts as a way of existing and negotiating space. Listening becomes something shared. This was the 2025 version. Next iteration → multi-body system June , will invite a lot more people (body) in ! Photo by venue photographer at IKLECTIK

Very glad to have directed and edited the official short film of “The Legend of Taiko”— where sound and image meet. ✨✨🎧 short clip of the film here only ! Based on the album <the legend of taiko 鼓震心弦>a continuation of the < Moon Over the Ruined City >(World music award)this work brings together Chinese and Japanese musicians in a fully improvised recording in Kanagawa. Alongside this, the “Chinese Music Map” is still going on with national art fund of China — a supported long-term project documenting and recording the sounds of China’s diverse ethnic traditions , the 56 groups through fieldwork and archival practice. Many of these voices are disappearing — this is not only preservation, but reactivation. This project speaks to the continuity of culture, and to how sound can be re-heard and re-understood in the present. Allowing voices from different regions and histories to return to the present, and become part of the future. It is an honor to contribute to the continuity and protection of cultural heritage through this work.❤️ Thrilled to collaborate with producer Ye Yunchuan, mixing engineer Li Dakang, and Grammy-winning mastering engineer Alan Silverman. Thank you ! “According to legend, during the Sui and Tang dynasties in ancient China, a type of waist drum called variously yaogu or hugu from the Western Regions would gradually be refined and evolve into jiegu and was included in the music and dance of the court. Eventually, it was introduced to Japan along with music and dance, becoming the predecessor of the Japanese kakko. Over a long period of time, these homologous drums have gradually evolved into different forms and performance techniques, showcasing the unique aesthetic qualities of Asian culture with stronger and more powerful sound impact.”

A full acoustic album of mine is out! Fire Serpent is now officially released — available on all streaming platforms, with a limited edition of 50 CDs. Following our collaboration in 2025 through recording sessions and touring in China, Paul Cheneour @cheneour and I have come together again for this new album. Across this record, guzheng, flute, pads and gongs weave through one another in a fully improvised and open compositional process. We went straight into the studio and recorded the album live, following sound, breath, vibration and instinct in the moment. For me, this album is also an important part of my ongoing practice: an exploration into the modern sonic possibilities of the guzheng, and my ear seeking for ways of listening this instrument that feel alive and previously unheard. Hope your ears find pure joy in the vibration of strings and the breath of flute.🤍 (picture as conceptual design , full look of CD available though web ) — Fire Serpent《火蟒》 2026全新纯音乐专辑,正式发布! — Performers / 演奏 Zhuyang Liu — Guzheng / Pads / Gongs Paul Cheneour — Flutes / Pads / Gongs Recorded at / 录音地点 Studio 22, London Recording Engineer / 录音工程 Zhuyang Liu Mixed & Mastered by / 混音与母带 Marcus Bishop (QLS) Produced by / 制作人 Paul Cheneour / Zhuyang Liu / Marcus Bishop

Posting a work that actually performed so many times across different platforms and stages , so much love to ”The gourmet critics “ 2024 finally archiving here ❤️‍🔥 Sound performance, electronic installation,by Zhuyang Liu and Lil Soap @soap_dynastea is not your typical fine-dining experience. It’s a cheeky, grotesque, and brain-sizzling deep dive into what happens when two food critics, sit down to critique a peculiar dish: each other’s brains. A new work premieres at the V&A South Kensington on 27 February. @vamuseum A score we invite you to enter. 📍 V&A Friday Late 📅 27 February 🕢 19:50 & 20:50 Free entry Details in bio @zhuyangleiu @soap_dynastea A scream opens the space. Not as spectacle — but as rupture. A clearing in which something can gather. Shìshēng — As Sound Splashes is not a fixed composition, but a field of potential unfolding inside the Raphael Cartoons Gallery. Chinese strings, Chinese percussion, electronics and voice respond to the room, to one another, and to you. Emerging from Zhuyang Liu’s formulation of 势 (Shì) as a structural logic — an operative system she has developed — the work shifts attention away from authorship and toward shared emergence. Rather than separating performer from listener, structure from freedom, or privileging any dominant tongue or syntax, the work moves through a non-binary logic — where language is not inherited, but formed in real time. The score remains blank because it must remain open.Form appears only when forces converge. Each set becomes a temporary architecture —shaped by the room, the performers, and those who enter it. The scream returns at the end.as something we leave behind together. Special thanks to the support from professionals: @room2n0g @orangela__ Clip Drumming @adios.cowboi
