“Improvicating” is a newly-found improvised project leading by Bianco. The meaning of this made-up word is somewhere between improvising and nonsense, a spur-of-the-moment thing.
In 2025, Bianco is shifting her creative focus toward improvisation and embarking on a series of sound-nomad projects (residencies and tours), primarily in small ensembles, collaborating with local artists. Over the course of nearly a hundred performances, she gradually realized that a more inclusive, genre-blurring approach to performance makes it easier to enter a state of "flow"—and that the word "improvisation" can arguably describe most of what happens on stage. The two musicians she's collaborating with, Hong and Benoît, are both deeply rooted in improvisation. With their mature musical vocabularies, nuanced explorations of timbre, and command of complex rhythmic patterns, they are impeccable partners for this project.
Bianco’s practice spans a wide range of sonic territories, including free improvisation, jazz, avant-garde, and noise. Her research focuses on vocal experimentation, overtones, ethnomusicology, microtones, graphic notation, and instant composition. Her experience performing in London’s underground live scene brought her into direct contact with the British free improvisation tradition, with key figures such as Derek Bailey, Cornelius Cardew, and Evan Parker. At the same time, she has been influenced by Sainkho Namtchylak and New York–based female musicians such as Jen Shyu, Meredith Monk, and Pauline Oliveros, exploring the relationship between the body, field research, female narratives... relation with sound.
