ZAHA HADID: 10 years without her
We miss her.
Yes, today, 31 March, marks ten years since Zaha Hadid passed away. Among the many events taking place around the world today to commemorate her, I thought I’d do something too by gathering some memories, partly to thank her, starting with a few snapshots from when, in 2011, she came to the Politecnico di Milano, visibly moved by the hundreds of people who had filled every available space just to show her their great affection.
Stefano Boeri invited her to the architecture courtyard; it was the first time we’d used that space as a agora, and since then, fortunately, we haven’t stopped. Delving into my archives, I’ve chosen one image for each of her works that I’ve visited; I’d never counted them before, there are more than 40, and each is linked to a memory. Often I was with friends or my students; on two occasions it was an opening, so she was there too.
Many thanks to Professors Gabriele Masera
@gmasera and Roberto Dulio
@erredisettantuno for some of the materials 🙏🏻
There will be many opportunities to talk about what Zaha Hadid achieved and her legacy. But for now, today —the first day on which it is legally possible— I am very pleased that Milan has named a street after her, from which, of course, one can admire her houses and her beautiful iconic tower.
