About Miles Davis
Miles Davis (1926-1991) fundamentally reshaped modern music across five decades of relentless reinvention. From pioneering bebop and cool jazz to defining hard bop, modal improvisation, and electric fusion, Davis treated each genre breakthrough as a starting point rather than a destination. His discography reads like a timeline of jazz’s evolution: Birth of the Cool, Kind of Blue (the best-selling jazz album of all time), Sketches of Spain, In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and dozens more albums that continue to define both the essence and the outer limits of improvised music.
Inaugural meeting of the 88 Club @scottsjazzclub - I've always wanted to be a member of a secret society! The Jazz Illuminati banded together to buy a piano for Scott's, which sounds briliiant. If @zcott insists on playing Herbie Hancock, however, we may have to direct our next fundraising efforts towards a keytar.
Absolutely thrilled that thanks to the generosity of our audience, Scott's Jazz Club now has its very own grand piano! I genuinely didn’t think this would ever happen. We’re now the only venue in Belfast with a proper in-house piano, and it’s a super instrument to play.
I did a lot of gigs in 2025 but probably my favourite was playing the Keith Jarrett Koln concert at the incredible St Joseph’s church in Sailortown as part of Sound of Belfast. It was freezing, I did the gig with a scarf on but the acoustic was just brilliant. There’s a couple of clips here but they don’t quite do the place justice - if you get a chance to see something here, do! The second half of the concert was the duo project with harpist Gráinne Meyer, and we’re hoping to do more stuff in 2026 :-)
SCOTT FLANIGAN + GRAINNE MEYER
What happens when two different musical worlds collide? Jazz pianist Scott Flanigan @zcott and traditional harpist @grainne.meyer come together to explore what happens when jazz meets trad!
Be prepared to be transported on a journey through time and culture, where Irish melodies meld with the spontaneity of jazz improvisation. Join us for an evening of unparalleled harmony as these two remarkable instruments intertwine, creating a unique and mesmerizing musical experience.
