𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘥 10: Zancan @zancan.code
10 artists. 10 works. 1 evolving algorithm.
When generative artist Zancan inherited the algorithm to create 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘥 10, he received Aleksandra Jovanić’s files and immediately discovered a hidden, full-scale 3D human figure buried within the code.
His response? To isolate the exact geometry of that figure, construct a visceral wound near its heart and use algorithmic flora and cubic structures as symbols of personal healing.
Zancan sits down with Logan Woodyard to discuss the emotional weight of anchoring the grand finale. He explains how translating a single vertex into a place of human empathy resulted in the most figurative piece he has ever produced. Instead of the usual process of generating and curating thousands of outputs, Zancan details his decision to rely entirely on Aleksandra’s choice. He explains why keeping her exact composition intact was so important, and how he ultimately brought the ten-part series full circle by echoing Tyler Hobbs’ original color palette and sweeping landscapes.
As Zancan reflects on bringing the 10-artist chain to a close, he reveals that a peer’s generative code is simply too personal to reuse literally. Ultimately, he concludes that the true art lies not in the final output but entirely in the shared concepts and the collaborative process.

Focus on ‘A Bugged Forest’ #436 by @zancan.code , from the ABS Collection.
Part of a series of 1,000 generative works, this piece grows from the artist’s fascination with the density of plants and luxuriant trees. Inspired by this proliferation, Zancan turns to mathematical formulas to compose intricate networks of lines, occasionally punctuated by transparent or solid forms.
In doing so, he challenges the genealogy of LeWitt, Mohr and Molnar, moving away from the constraints of geometric post-minimalism towards something more instinctive. The result surpasses the purely algorithmic: the compositions feel guided by a painter’s eye, balanced, organic, alive.
🤩 Great to see @zancan.code generative artist's solo exhibition "Tree_Line" at @bitforms gallery in New York 🇺🇸, fusing art, generative code, maths and nature.

"In his first solo exhibition with bitforms gallery, Zancan brings together a body of work that weaves the organic intricacies of nature with the exacting logic of generative code. Tree_Line traces the evolution of Zancan’s primary subject—the tree—as a motif and metaphor of a living structure composed of systems, networks, and branching decisions, mirroring the algorithms that define generative art."
