Een mooie herinnering dat zorgen voor wat we al hebben ook een daad van gemeenschap, creativiteit en activisme kan zijn 💚

May. Fifth month of the 2026, and it hasn’t been easy navigating life as a diasporic Iranian artist-practical philosopher. This year began with waves of intense news from Iran: inflation, protests, massacre. By the end of February, I woke up to the news of war. Fortunately, I had a little glitter and styling event planned for that Sunday. With Tjan @coupe.en.frite , we entertained and styled the hair of little ones (age 0–4). Crazy hairstyles, flashy colors, painted faces. ⚡️ My heart was heavy the whole time, thinking of friends and family in Tehran. But I was glad to be part of a project about life, hope, and joy. And I was happy the kids trusted me with my (broken yet evolving) Dutch. Hairstyling is close to my heart. I was a hairstylist in Iran for two years (under the name Moobasaa). In Belgium, it became something I only did for friends, in private. So returning to it (now within my research on fashion and feelings, and fashion as graphic disruption in contemporary culture) felt valuable and full of meaning. It really helped me keep my heart open. ❤️‍🩹 Thank you @nekkersdal and cafe purée for the invite. Soon we’ll be at Aximax for another animation 🫶🏼

A sunny Saturday in Brussels at Kiosk Radio, with strangers and friends, needles and thread, fabric scraps and clothes in need of love and care. 🌞 We stitched uncomfortable feelings into patches. Repaired holes and sewn shapes onto fabrics. Some taught others how to sew. We watched, learned, sat together. This was my contribution to Fashion Revolution’s Mend in Public Day: a practice at the heart of my PhD research on clothes, feelings, repair, and the surfaces we wear and carry. Sometimes finding accessible, welcoming spaces like a park (and focusing on a simple activity like closing a single hole in a single sock) can feel more powerful than trying to fix everything beyond our reach. Especially in times when it seems like the whole world is on fire. Super mega grateful for everyone who came, watched, stitched, shared.
