I gave a talk at @phxdw about this No Work, All Play mentality I’ve been trying to embrace. The goal being, to truly enjoy the “work” I’m producing and get lost in the process of that creation. While simultaneously exploring new avenues of creation that excite me. And the underlying reasoning is that we don’t have much time here on this spinning rock so why not spend it making things that set your soul on fire? So I leave you with this…we may be dying, but we’re not dead yet!! Push those daydreams before daisies. 🔥

I started this project last year and it involved designing so many different pieces that I finally wrapped it up! Feel free to pause the video to read all the fun content on the back of the box. And if for some strange reason anyone is interested, I have an extra misprint. ✌️

Last year, my homies at @fanatics reached out the literal day before I was heading off to Paris. They had this fun project to design a lil type lockup/badge for America’s 250th birthday. So, I had a few hours to whip up a collection of sketches to present. These rough sketches were all drawn from the ground up as with all my lettering projects. They sadly never made it to final but hell yeah brother did I have a good time drawin’! 🇺🇸

Even more @discord stickers drawn for the superhero themed CTRL+R event. Those robot hands were the biggest pain but they’re some of my favs of the bunch 🦾

Part of the @discord CTRL-R work always involves…stickers! So, I drew up a collection of reactionary comic book themed stickers for use in the app and other collateral.

I’ve been collaborating with my favs at Discord on a handful of projects, including the branding for CTRL+R — their internal event to refocus teams, re-energize momentum and setting strategy for the year to come. I was able to art direct and build out all kinds of superhero Discord themed assets. First of which was the logo. It started with a partial custom typeface which was then brought into Blender to add that superhero depth and dimension. Then, came the process of transforming the classic Discord characters into superheroes. I sketched out their t-poses and had @mgilbertdesign come in to assist with building the new costumes in 3D. From there, @patrick_mh came in to assist with the rigging and posing to bring these characters to life! A massive amount of work, with plenty more still to share. Shoutout to the team!! A little while ago, I collaborated with the @fanatics crew on an update to their polymailer packaging. This guy, me, the guy that knows next to nothin’ about sports got to draw all kinds of balls, flags, trophies, and more that was turned into a repeatable pattern. Which brings me to the choice of song — I DO know that Creed played a legendary halftime show at a sports ball game we Americans call, football. And that’s the extent of sports knowledge I can share with you. Hope you dig my sports drawings!!

The year is coming to a close with me being sick on the couch. No “Spotify wrapped” kinda stats to share, no collection of photos, just a lil (but really big) thank you. I’ve been freelancing full time for over 10 years and you’d think it gets easier with time…When in reality, each year has brought its own challenges and reasons to pivot and adapt. I’ve nearly given up this freelance life a handful of times but the universe just kept bringing me back. Lately, my interests and hobbies have allowed my freelance work to expand into realms I could only dream of. And working on projects that allow me to flex my creativity and constantly learn new things is a real damn gift. I’m thankful and grateful for those that trust me with their projects, for sharing my name with your ADs and CDs, for hyping me up with the kind comments, for supporting me through e-shop purchases, and so much more. This freelance life may just be me, myself, and I from an outside perspective — but truthfully, a freelance life is only made possible by everyone else around me. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without all of you guys in my corner. So again, a lil (big) thank you for another year of allowing me to pursue my dreams ❤️

Always a great time getting away from the computer to paint a wall! This time around, painting a classic postcard design in the Tempe @godaddy office. This project was a beast because of all the tiny lil details I decided to include…but so worth it in the end. I estimated 4-5 days to paint this…but it took almost 2 weeks and all made possible by the loving support from the homies and my wife that came through to assist! The mural was also then produced as a physical postcard to allow employees and visitors to send one directly from the office 💌 Shoutouts to all these wonderful people: @kat_tatkin @sid.pearce @mira.nikol @sammmhendricks @tuckbrown2 @muralmates @dailybai And the amazing art direction by @nathencantwell and Terry McBane at GoDaddy.
