Building Mr Aura for the AMVCAs was never just about clothes . it was about identity, presence and storytelling.
For the main day look, we drew subtle inspiration from the iconic military jackets worn by Michael Jackson, not as costume, but as a language of discipline, authority and performance. Structured tailoring, ceremonial embellishments and controlled silhouettes came together to create a look that felt regal, sharp and unforgettable for Kanaga’s first major AMVCA nomination.
For the cultural day look, we explored heritage through a modern lens. Inspired by Festus Okotie-Eboh’s iconic 1960s photograph and designed by @rogue_ng , the look featured a hand-embellished jacquard top detailed with over 4,000 crystal stones, pearls and beads. It was paired with a velvet skirt carrying a dramatic 25-feet train adorned with 10 handcrafted ISI AGU (lion heads), symbolising strength, royalty and his Igbo roots.
To deepen the narrative, the train was carried by a young lad dressed in coordinated red ceremonial styling, representing lineage, continuity and cultural pride. The look was completed with a custom red-beaded staff crowned with a golden lion, reinforcing the symbolism of power, legacy and identity.
Every fitting, every embellishment and every detail was intentional.
