IM Jacksonville 🥈
Bitter sweet leading this race for 137 miles and just coming up short of the win, but hey that’s Ironman and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Hats off to @pedrogomestri for an incredible race and excited to run it back in Kona.
Lots of positives coming out of this race, especially laying down the fastest bike split of the day and running well in tough conditions despite GI issues. As coach @yoderperformance would say…Onwards.

A bit of a comedy of errors this morning however we are now racked and ready to go! Looking forward to the first race of the year at Chattanooga 70.3. Feel free to track the race here, bib 407: https://rtrt.me/ulink/IRMA/IRM-CHATTANOOGA703-2026/tracker/R3G8S7DL/focus
6th at 70.3 Gulf Coast. Shortened swim wasn’t ideal, but good to see the work on the bike paying off and was able to manage a 1:10 run. Also pretty cool seeing my dad grab 2nd in his age group. Back at it next weekend for Chattanooga 70.3.

No 45 hours is not the new 30 hours and I am proof…
There has been a lot of buzz recently about pro triathletes putting in monster training weeks. I am even one of them (I put in 40+ hours of work during @capeepic ). But let’s be clear, that week was an anomaly. My average volume is closer to 20 hours per week.
On a recent @thetriathlonhour podcast, Jack and Sam Long talked about a monster 45 hour training week that Sam just finished. The caption and comments even implied that 45 hours is the volume needed to be successful in the sport these days
I have huge respect for both Sam and Jack, but as a medical student, I feel compelled to express that this is a dangerous statement to be making as it risks encouraging amateur triathletes to significantly increase their volume which puts them at risk of injury.
45 hours per week is something that very few triathletes (such as Sam) can do safely. This is because of his long (no pun intended) history of high volume training.
Plus he did not build to this volume overnight. Studies have shown again and again that rapid training load increases significantly increase an athletes risk of injury. Sometimes the injury shows up immediately. Other times it takes 4-7 weeks to present itself.
So what is the take away?
1) Let’s not valorize massive training weeks
2) Volume is just one pillar of effective training and racing
3) Volume increases should be gradually built up over months and years. Not days or weeks.
Share this with anyone who thinks that massive volume is needed to be successful in triathlon.

Today I set a new Ironman South Africa Course Record. 10 days ago I took a 9 hour medical school exam. 28 days ago I completed the ABSA Cape Epic
🥵
To take the W and break Magnus Ditlev’s course record by ~2 minutes is a bit hard to comprehend! This past month has been extra busy and stressful even for me, so to still be able to perform well at a high level leaves me super excited for the rest of the season.
Here are some things about my race you probably didn’t know:
1) I did NOT cramp during a race for the first time in 18 months
2) I lost 2 bottles, each with 640 calories during the bike, and I even lost ~60 seconds or so turning around to grab one of them because carbs are key
3) The South African spectators bring an energy to this race that is UNMATCHED!
4) The first and last finisher to cross the finish line were both American
5) The bike course is wayyyy harder than it looks on paper. We had a strong crosswind the entire race and the roads made your legs feel like jelly but the views were spectacular!
Congrats to @notanotheraveragejoe and @tristanolij for the podium!
Thank you so so much to everyone who volunteered and came out to cheer. This race definitely goes down as one of my favorites because of all the love and enthusiasm that you brought to the day. Thank you to South Africa for being such a welcoming and incredible people and place during each of my visits this past month.

1 month until full engine room test at @ironmantri Chattanooga 70.3. I’m just happy to still be getting faster, for however much longer I can. #triathlon #letsgo
Full weekend of teaching and training in Montreal.
Spent two days with a room full of clinicians leveling up their practice with ART Lower Extremity/Level 1.
This is the work that moves the whole field forward — better practitioners, better outcomes, fewer patients falling through the cracks.
35 days to 70.3 Chattanooga. First race of the season. The build is on. #training #triathlon #healthcare
Every lap, every split, every drop of sweat backed by real data. The lactate doesn’t lie, and neither does the work it takes to push that threshold just a little further each session.
A shaky explanation, but very solid data. Fitness is building, and I’m looking forward to kicking my season off.
Excited to be supported by Varlo and have brands like Rudy and Mizuno helping it out to go as fast as possible!
