Just wanting to share some of my knowledge on helping vulnerable community members, particularly during extreme cold. There is more to this but I wanted to keep it as digestible as possible (4 minutes later...) 1. If you are wanting a crisis van for a community member, please call 211. Vans can only be dispatched if you speak directly with a responder. 2. Please check to see if someone is breathing, conscious and responsive. If they are not, or if you are uncertain, it is better to call 911 in case of a medical emergency. Especially if someone appears to be sleeping or unconscious outside. 3. If you call 211, wait times to reach a responder can be about 10-20 minutes, and the wait time for a van can be up to 2-3 hours. If you are dispatching a van, ensure there is a safe, warm place for the person in need to wait. Simple ideas for that include libraries, gas stations, convenience stores, liquor stores, restaurants. Due to the long wait times, if a community member is wandering about, or leaves the area that was designated, the vans will not be able to find them. Ensure people stay in one spot and wait. 4. Times to call 211 for a van include: when someone directly asks you to; when someone appears to be in crisis i.e. yelling into the void, clearly intoxicated in public, sobbing uncontrollably etc.; when someone is passed out in an unusual place but is responsive and breathing. This list isn't exhaustive but I digress. Times to not call 211: Someone is minding their own business, not disturbing anybody in a public place, and are not in any sort of crisis. Times to call 911: Someone is passed out, not breathing, not responding, lips/fingers turning blue; someone is acting violently i.e. brandishing a weapon, throwing objects. Finally be kind if you are calling 211. We are tired and believe me I have heard some pretty intense stuff over the years. Please don't add to that load if you are frustrated and want to yell. Aw YEAH I've had a little bit of time to decompress and process an absolutely incredible weekend at @thedowntowndefrost so wanted to gush a little bit. I had spent the week practicing some mindful delusion, getting a crate ready and practicing up just on the off chance that I was asked onto stage. On Saturday morning I got a call letting me know that Villager had gotten sick and that I was being welcomed onto the stage at @double_dragon_double_dragon that night! Pre show jitters are always a big thing for me but never quite this intense given the size of the crowd (as seen in the selfie) and the immediacy of the gig, so I spent the day really riding the waves and trying to trust the process, that everything was gonna be ok. I'm still freaking out about following my personal GOAT @kraejiyaeji and handing the decks off to @imdanemacdonald and @max.ulis A huge thank you to everyone who came out and danced, to all those who have supported what I am doing here, to @davefromjoluca and @princewibber for the amazing opportunity and for my wonderful spouse @kasara_cheers for helping keep my head on my shoulders. Big things are still coming, such as the election on the 28th, I can't vote but you probably can so please do that. Raving for me, as I am sure it has for many people who watch this videos, changed my life. To find a sense of community around so many wonderful people, all soundtracked to music that has continued to change, evolve and challenge me to keep moving, has been an absolute joy. I started this to try and find a way to give back a bit of what I have received from the music and the community. To help build up a strong and vibrant scene so that new people would be able to discover these places and hopefully have their lives impacted similarly to my own. After hearing many stories and getting great feedback, I am hoping that I can say, for now, I am leaving things better than I found them. I can't say for sure what the future will bring. I am going to reflect on this experience and see if this can continue moving forward. But if that isn't the case, then I wanted to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who has supported the videos, who has danced with me, who has shared a little slice of their life with me.
