A clip of “Last Call” at The Joyce for @ycfdance My house was filled with the music of Phil Collins growing up and my mom would always mention the drums in the music as she danced around this house. As I started to dive into teaching and choreography I found that this stuck with me, and I find myself constantly listening for the drums. When I heard this version of Sussudio I just knew I had to create something to it that honored what I knew with movement that felt like home. A big thank you to these seven incredible dancers who helped me create this and made my theatre jazz dreams come to life onstage! There was a trust & lightness in the room that made everything feel seamless. You showed up, you listened, you locked in, you laughed, you got it, & you carried this with so much care. This only worked because of who you are as humans, not just dancers. You healed me in ways you aren’t aware of. I love you all more than you know. 💜🥹 Thank you to @ebufferd & YCF for choosing us be a 3x guest. I’m forever grateful to YCF and thankful for our ongoing relationship. We are always honored to perform on the Joyce stage and treasure every second in that deeply special venue. There’s no place like home. 🙏🏻 🍎 To my big brother, @justinbaldoni , this was for us. This piece lives in the moment when someone finally sees the weight you’ve been holding, everyone you’ve been protecting, & makes you feel safe enough to loosen your grip & put the sword down. I didn’t know what it felt like to be protected like that before you. Your protection didn’t make me smaller ; it gave me access to parts of myself I hadn’t been able to live in. Because real safety doesn’t take the sword away ; it lets you set it down when you need to, & pick it back up for who & what matters, knowing someone has your back with their own blade. You have been that for me in ways I don’t even have language for ; the one who sees me not for what I give, but for what I carry. And especially after everything these past 3 years have asked of you, this is me reminding you that you don’t have to do it alone either. I love you. 💜
