@thestorytellersintensive . There is a distinct and often misunderstood art to improvisation in dance. Improv done correctly, is truly an intricate alchemy of instinct, musicality, trust, storytelling, and courage. It is not just the absence of structure ; it is the mastery of responsiveness. It demands the dancer listen with their entire being ; to the body, the music, the space, the partner, and the unspoken narrative within. In this space, we explore how to make intentional choices in real time, how to surrender control without losing clarity. How to speak without words, viscerally, vulnerably, and with purpose through movement that is both fleeting and deeply honest. To reach this kind of raw truth requires more than talent. It requires an environment built on safety, trust, and mutual respect. I’m forever grateful to facilitate that kind of space.

Prompt : Explore the ache of unreciprocated connection. One gives everything reaching with openness, with hope, with love, while the other stays closed. You cannot hold someone who won’t hold you back. There is no grasp, only release. Let the movement live in the space between generosity and abandonment.
Ask yourself : What does it cost to keep your hands open when no one takes them ? How do you move with someone who won’t stay ? And what remains when love becomes surrender, not safety ?
