Taken during Mahsa Salali’s participatory performance, THE CALL – MUBĀH مباح, at the launch of the collective
@_myto___ in October 2024.
Wearing 20 kilos of chains around her neck, Salali stood in stillness, then moved with slow, deliberate gestures—chest beating and chanting—in a visceral invocation of Muharram rituals. The audience was invited to walk around her seven times, drawn into an intimate, meditative act of witness.
THE CALL explores resilience, identity, and the politics of the body, confronting both societal and religious expectations that female bodies are objected to: through the language of ritual and endurance.
Mahsa will next perform THE CALL
@whitechapelgallery on Thu 7 Aug, 7–8.30pm, as part of The London Open Live program.
✬Not to be missed. Mahsa is a truly radical force in London's underground art scene.
