The spaces in which artists live, create, hide and take sanctuary are often extensions of their art. In the case of Stephen Wright his home is the art work. His @house_of_dreams_museum in south London was No.23 on the FT’s top 50 artists house museums in the world. I implore you to go and see this wonder if you can get your hands on a ticket. It books up months in advance. It was an overwhelming experience to visit the house and it was an absolute privilege to have a chat in the garden with Stephen, his husband and his small team of volunteers. We spoke about his last show in Philadelphia, our experiences of the tile garden in Chandigarh and how he collects the materials for the house… Some artists work at home, so have studios they can escape to, separating home and work life, some like Jade Summers simply works wherever she is in her small sketchbook of wonders. From Old Stony Hill Road in Kingston, Jamaica to the valleys of south Wales, the tactile works of @oldstonyhill are created to travel and wander the world with their owners. Her illustrative trinkets and charms carry sentiments and stories. They have almost magical personalities that are a precarious balance of virtue and rebellion. This new collection available in the ART SHOP features charms, rings, earrings and a selection of porcelain masks… Working frantically and irreverently from her Canterbury home, Laura Mars aka @xanthippe_mudd is an expressionist whirlwind of dreams. Portraits, monkeys, circuses, dogs and foreign lands are painted in haste in a rampage of emotions. Colour and collaged materials are layered to create works which look back through history, imagined and real. Fragments of personal memory are whipped together with historical figures and dreamlike creatures, making the paintings vibrate with a raw, hysterical and hilarious irony… The blue gods, men, images by @_skrishnanana will descend in new forms onto The Old High Street. These seductive works by the London based artist, designer and curator are representations of hybrid identities. He mixes concepts and materials relating to Hindu epics and myths, comic-book superheroes and Disney princesses.
