Welcome to Brazil! Well, Folkestone really, but there is a definite Brazilian vibe in the air! There are various Brazilian events across town from CT20’s Reel Brazil to the actual Brazilian Circus arriving next week, and now SAMBA by What On Earth X @pot_and_vessel for @openartfolke The collaboration between ceramicist @davidjohnfroude and myself has taken over windows and delivered a collection of vivid and joyously irreverent pots and planters to the Bouverie West shop. Each piece is unique, handmade and glazed in Folkestone. Within the beautifully luscious green space curated by owner Rachel, you can find a sculptural array of plants from the tropics along with expert knowledge for you to create your own Samba garden at home! 🪴🌵🌈
To celebrate the launch in tropical style we will be having a little party, complete with the sounds and tastes of Rio this Saturday from 4-6pm. The show opens on Friday 25th July and runs until the end of August and the windows can be seen 24hrs a day! What on Earth was born out of a love of life, clay and colour. A belief that life is fragile and should be lived like there is no tomorrow with a spirit of playful curiosity. Our work plays with ideas of life and death in a ceramic carnival of colour, form, pattern and mischievous absurdity. The work, functional and decorative, infiltrates people’s everyday lives. It’s about bringing people together, revelry and trying new things. A fusion of our worldly experiences and creativity…

Brand-new stoneware wildlife mini pond. Let the creatures and critters have a drink or a bath. No space for a large pond? Stoneware should be safe all year round, can you see already the underwater life? I am making these with recycled clay, and using solar power for the Kiln. It don’t get much greener than that, peeps. Please message if you would like one.

These small paintings are part of a series inspired by a stormy and windy day last summer looking out to sea from the Leas in Folkestone where from the cliff top you can see the light sparkle and colours flash . It is a good place to go to sort your thoughts out thus the title ‘The Wind Had No Words ‘
See these and other larger works plus ceramics by @davidjohnfroude and @stevenaronwilliams at Froude and Froude Gallery 62 The Old High St Folkestone .
