KENT ARTISTS PROJECT UPDATE The longer KAP goes on, the more honoured I feel  that artists are willing to sit for me and be part of the project. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to meet and to photograph: ANASTASIA TORY  (Margate) A ceramicist and sculptor  most recently using herself to define form and place @anastasiatory ASA ARIYOSHI-POPE (Margate) a painter whose work explores relationships and her cultural heritage @asaariyoshipope DAISY TORTUGA (Margate) A multi-disciplinary artist working in ceramics, jewellry, knitwear and rugs. But I was most taken by her rugs, that could be paintings  @daisy_tortuga RORY DRAPER (Margate) Whose work explores desire and finding his context @rory_draper_art_ …more to follow… The full gallery of Kent Artists (since 2014) can be viewed here: /index/G0000ipHbYuH7UrQ (Link in bio) #Kentartistsproject #margate

KENT ARTISTS PROJECT UPDATE The longer KAP goes on, the more honoured I feel  that artists are willing to sit for me and be part of the project. Last week I was very happy to have had the opportunity to meet and to photograph: JOHN DAVIES one of my heroes when I first started being interested in art in the 70’s So pleased to have met John and  to have been able to include him in the #KentArtistsProject. @JohnDaviesSculptor LILY PRIGENT doing great work with drawing and line, in and around Margate and in France. We thought we might do something by the sea but the weather didn’t agree. @Lilymixe ANNIE NICHOLS interesting combinations of LED/neon, ceramics and sugar. Making domesticity into art @annienicholsartist LUCY McGEOWN A very happy chance encounter. Lucy delves deep into the drawn and painted world  and she helps others find their way in it too. @LucyMcGeown …more to follow… The full gallery of Kent Artists (since 2014) can be viewed here: /index/G0000ipHbYuH7UrQ (Link in bio) #Kentartistsproject

I have been a big fan of Wim Wenders,  both his photography and has film work ever since I saw his “The State of Things” in 1982, and more recently his Perfect Days is a sublime film. But his comments at Cannes have created a minor furore where he suggested that politics has no place in art I kind of get where he is coming from but at the same time I think that art and politics are close bedfellows,  although they clearly don’t need to be. Related to this is the appalling and worrying treatment that @matthew.collings_ has received in relation to his Gaza show that I was lucky enough to see at @_Josephwales_ in Margate and that was supposed to be in London. Growing up in apartheid South Africa in the 70's taught me that everything is political and art needs to be able to be political and not shut down because of it. I thought it was a powerful exhibition.

KENT ARTISTS PROJECT UPDATE The longer KAP goes on, the more honoured I feel  that artists are willing to sit for me and be part of the project. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to meet and to photograph: WILLOW WINSTON  (Broadstairs) Willow has a lifetime of creativity  behind her in all media, shapes and forms  and she has lots more still to give. (no Instagram) / PATRICK MORALES LEE (Whitstable) @Patrickmoraleslee ’s work is rooted in figurative portraiture, his more recent forays into abstraction whilst retaining his figurative roots, is exciting. /paintings-drawings JACKIE BROWN  (Nr Folkestone) @jackiebrown4595  is an artist directly connected to her environment  which she uses in all her work across  sculpture, drawing and painting MEGAN YELETS (Biddenden) @megan_yelets  makes beautiful paintings on board evocative of other worlds. / All are doing great work and are well worth looking into more deeply …more to follow… The full gallery of Kent Artists (since 2014) can be viewed here: /index/G0000ipHbYuH7UrQ (Link in bio) I will be slowing down on the KAP front for the next few weeks  in the run up to my exhibition,  at Gallery 66, Old High Street Folkestone 10-23rd June,  (you are all welcome to the PV on the 12th). But thereafter it will wind up again  as the book designs are now pretty much sorted (thank you @Caroline.jefford )  so the the book is one step closer.   I will be doing a post about that shortly. #Kentartistsproject Robert Greshoff  https://linktr.ee/RobertGreshoff

I was delighted to meet up with @jackiebrown4595 for #KentArtistsProject recently and was equally delighted to find some Zen (alongside a Bronica) on her working table.

I had a break from computer work and very pleasant day out in Thanet yesterday. I was very pleased to meet up with @100_hours and @polly_judge for #KentArtistsProject and then swung by @lido_stores_margate , where Kristen's landmark sculpture is undergoing refurbishment, made my way to see @michellegoggiart and @lucyspanyol small but perfectly formed show at @_josephwales_ (The Hundreth Monkey), saw the Billy Childish paintings at @carlfreedmangallery which are better in real life and then headed back inland via @sarah_wedderburn and @johndaviessculptor to chat over a cuo of tea and to buy my copy of her wonderful book of poems that has just been published. (The I of My Storm). I wasn’t able to do or see anything else but I will be back.

KENT ARTISTS PROJECT UPDATE The longer KAP goes on, the more honoured I feel that artists are willing to sit for me and be part of the project. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to meet and to photograph: CHRIS FRIEL (Nr Canterbury) Chris was a painter, now photographer and his work articulately and uniquely bridges the canyon between art and photography. @frielphotos LILY BUCHANAN (Margate) Lily’s work is rooted in observational drawing but she does delicate and lovely paintings too! She is also the first pregnant artist in KAP so hers is actually a double portrait! @ lilybuchananartist BAY LEES (nr Faversham) Bay Lees is a multiu-takented painter, printmaker and potter but her one-off monotype variations are intriguingly beautiful, and are my favourites. @bayleesstudio FABIENNE JENNY JACQUET (Deal) Fabienne creates small (in general) painterly and phantasmagorical (I love that word) paintings in oil. @fabiennejennyjacquet All are doing great work and are well worth looking into more deeply …more to follow… The full gallery of Kent Artists (since 2014) can be viewed here: /index/G0000ipHbYuH7UrQ (Link in bio) We are also just finalising the final designs for the first KAP book. I will post these shortly but the crowdfunding push will happen in July, after my exhibition finishes. #Kentartistsproject
