Thanks to a $1.2 million gift from @flukecorp , engineering classrooms and labs across five #WSU campuses are being equipped with professional-grade tools for students to gain hands-on experience with as they build skills for their industries. At @wsupullman , the Owen Science and Engineering Library is offering several of these tools for student checkout, giving @wsuvoiland students the opportunity to use testing devices that may not be readily accessible to them otherwise. Hear from Owen science, engineering, and mathematics librarian Chelsea Leachman about the capabilities of these tools and how they will elevate development and discovery for students. Read more about the impact and uses of this gift by visiting libraries.wsu.edu/blog or the link in our bio. #GoCougs #Engineering #Architecture

Did you see a hot air balloon over @wsupullman this morning? That was soon-to-be #CougGrad Aidan Hughes. ā€œI have been a balloon pilot for a couple years now, and it has been on my bucket list to fly here before I graduate. Made it happen the week of! It was a relatively short flight given that the upper level winds were about 15mph. We launched near the @wsualumni centre and flew predominantly west down low and NW at about 1100ft off the groundā€ Aidan says he usually flies out in Enumclaw in western Washington. Today I get to do something high school me didn’t think would be possible🄹 When I was in high school preparing to go to college, I was also dealing with the uncertainty of being a low-income first generation student and wondering where I would get the resources I needed to go to school, including getting a laptop. My high school English teacher encouraged me to submit an essay to a writing competition that was giving away laptops. Somehow, my essay won and I was awarded an @hp laptop! That laptop I won is the one I went on to do all my assignments for my bachelors degree @wsupullman . It is also the device that allowed me to begin my journey as a writer and researcher exploring what would become my life’s work: immigrant narratives, testimonio, and educational access. Even though that laptop might not even turn on anymore, I kept it all this time as a reminder of how my story began. Today I will be giving away a brand new @hp laptop to a graduating student at our celebration at the @doloreshuertaresourcecenter Today is a full circle moment & reminder to those who didn’t know if we would make it, that we CAN do it. Ā”Si se puede! If this resonates with you, I hope you will come today for a shot to win & be connected with resources. Today is for you. šŸ«¶šŸ½

REFLECTIONS, Vol. 1, No. 3 - May 1977. We're back to the Bonaventure's employee newsletter. 1 - They've just hosted their largest convention since opening! With over 3,000 guests and "on average" "at least 7 pieces of luggage to a room." I wonder what the hotel's record for largest convention is today. 3 - Do we think "Miss Bonny" is still available at extension 75632? "[P]retty waitress from the Sidewalk Cafe was Bonaventure's Easter Bunny" 4 - Employees may now receive a discount at Bonaventure retail stores, but off duty, in street clothes, no loitering! 5 - ”REFLECIONES! The sombrero, I can't! Is REFLECIONES (with an accent on the n) even proper español? 6 - Are the employees lost or are we? "Skybridges opened to the Arco Towers April 21. This skybridge can be entered from the fifth floor of the hotel." The only pedway I know of to Arco Towers is below the pool deck--potentially floor 2. In fact, I'm not sure there are any pedways off 5--there are two off 6 though (and the one to what was Arco garage was opened later). Alternate dimension pedways/demolished pedways? Or just proof the Bonaventure confused even employees since its inception? JUNKO JEWELS is...a name. What's currently in Suite 117? "Today, in America, there's one thing soaring higher than the birds and rockets--FUEL COSTS!" Then: Welcome to the "WIH family, Detroit Plaza Hotel!" Now: two of the Ren Center's five towers to be demolished in the coming year(s). 7 - "[A] guest left an envelope containing $10k in security bonds." Pat Morrison found "the Bonaventure's garbage and conduct[ed] a diligent search!" There's a movie in this story, and I wish someone had made it. FASHION NEWS - Do they still sell a "beige toned shirt in french cut and embossed with a classic photo of the hotel" Bonaventure T-Shirt? Is it still on a bulletin board in Take 5, the Employee's Cafeteria? HOW DO I CONTACT PERSONNEL Family Day is June 5th! Below, "The Bonaventure's bunny also served punch."
