Marfa feels less like a place and more like a long-running art project somebody forgot to end. That's what makes it so easy to fall in love with.
Medellín, Colombia. We went to see dear friends get married in a place we really didn’t know much about, and left with love for a new-to-us country.
We explored so much in the city, but also took the metro cable car to Parque Arví, just outside of the city. Rare picture of @greaterpyrenees and me that Tom took on the cable car.
On our last day, we went to @cafedragon.med . I loved the open-air dining room, the design of the record shelves, and the food was my favorite!
I didn’t get many pictures from the street food tour we took, either, but I signed up for it through @getyourguide . Highly suggest it—we learned about the food, yes, but also the history of the #Laureles neighborhood, the architecture, and the coffee culture in the country (as a whole). Tom really leaned into the coffee in Colombia. Next time we visit, we want to travel to the coffee-growing region, Eje Cafetero.

We are all up in the “art” of West Texas, over here! @artsycoxy and I hit the Big Bend region for @phxmagazine ’s Summer Travel issue, chasing a cover-worthy adventure! We saw masterpieces by humans and nature alike - stunning landscapes, dreamy eats, and the HUMBLING beauty of the Rio Grande… even a bonus surprise trail run-in with a friend in Alpine! Oh, and Eric might’ve left a few marks behind, too. ✍️ 😉
So do you think we got the cover? Stay tuned - the May/June issue drops next week! 👀

“Desert by Design” published one year ago today. We were on a high from the book’s very first event at Wrong, where we tended bar and let our hands go numb from signing. Buck’s initial order sold out, and we had to supplement with author copies from our trunk. On the 8th itself, we woke up at some ungodly hour to make 88 donuts in our countertop oven. Covered in chocolate and sprinkles, we served them at the library with pour-overs. It was a breezy, sunny, beautiful morning. That night, we hosted dinner with a handful of our closest at Jenny’s. We were celebrating one baby while preparing for the next. Our friends threw out guesses on our due date, all unsuccessfully. Three days later, we took a long dog walk, spring blooms blooming, and we left Marfa to get ready for the second big arrival. We teared up on the stretch of Highway 90 towards Valentine, reveling in the bliss of it all. A moment in time forever glued in our minds.
A few small benches made from a dead Black Walnut Tree that I harvested from a friend’s place in New Mexico. Part of a larger show of my foot stools and various wood working projects at The Wrong Store in August.
Desert plants, up close.
Sandra Harper is a Marfa-based artist whose PLANT PROJECTt: Chihuahuan Desert studies the forms and patterns of desert plants through drawing, print, and installation.
Her work moves between observation and abstraction to understand how these plants grow, adapt, and hold space in the desert.
On view April 10–11, 12–5 PM at Tucson Gastro Park. Come explore how agave shows up in art and how artists are working with desert plants in new ways.
