my next poetry collection, my 6th, is arriving in mid-April. it’s called BIRTHDAYS. my writing in it feels very much like it did when i first started writing poems in high school (is that good? bad? or just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯?)
BUT FIRST, i’m doing something different.
i’m releasing a BIRTHDAYS EP on vinyl. and Writ Large Projects is using the opportunity to make it our first Kickstarter project. the campaign launches TOMORROW!
THE BIRTHDAYS EP
i selected twelve poems/tracks from the book, sequenced them in a way that makes the most narrative sense on a two-sided vinyl record that can hold only so much work on each side. i recorded it on the voice memo app on my phone while curled up in the back room of our apartment because, well, i wanted it to sound like i felt. cover photo of wolf is by the always amazing artist, poet, actor, director Melora Walters.
PRINT-ON-DEMAND VINYL
About a year and a half ago, we met two young Carnegie Mellon engineering students. They were presenting a machine they’ve been developing: a print-on-demand vinyl record printer. Their company is called Lead-In Record Co.
we instantly saw a potential for writers, especially poets, to have a new (old) media—both to be able to sell and also to be able to experiment with. vinyl record printing has been too prohibitive both in cost and time, with months-long backlogs in manufacturing.

A book born from unanswered prayers, from waiting rooms, from the long ache of asking and not hearing back. These poems came from grief, faith, doubt, rage, love, & even tenderness—sometimes all in the same breath.
I didn’t write this to be neat.
I wrote it to be honest.
To name the silence.
To sit with it.
To survive it.
To love, unapologetically.
