Issue nine incoming! Let’s go crazy for his Purple highness, the trippy-dubby-soul-hop of Nightmares On Wax and the perfect pairing of TOMORA (Tom Chemical Brother and Aurora). All three covers ready for pre-order now. Please get stuck in. Independent music journalism needs all the support it can get. Don’t leave everything to the algorithms…
Also featuring: DJ Shadow, The Durutti Column, Burial, Justin Robertson and Richard Norris, Alexis Taylor, Ruf Dug in Japan, Joshua Idehen, Loraine James, DJ Hell, Tiga and three of our favourite female DJs Tia Cousins, Rosie Ama and Sarahtonin…
Out next week. Link to order in bio.
New issue time! Three is still the magic number. And love is still the answer. What time is love? 3am eternal? Featuring all the platters that matter. And that’s the truth, Ruth.

Pootled up to London tonight to catch the Pet Shop Boys’ Obscure show. Knew one song (King’s Cross, obviously) and yet, and yet, and yet… an unforgettable back catalogue of B-sides and album tracks. As a misguided indie kid 40 years ago I thought Pet Shop Boys were the enemy. How wrong I was.
For those that love a female singer-songwriter @e.r.thorpe releases her amazing debut LP, Human Love, today. Shades of all the greats: from the spooky strangeness of Karen Dalton to the sweetness of Carole King and taking in Joni Mitchell, Judee Sill etc, this is delicate and haunting songwriting. Twenty years ago would have been an ideal 7am sunrise soundtrack (after the previous night’s antics).
Extra Balearic points provided by @ronbasejam who produced the album and the appearance of stylish @torn_sail
Released by the nicest guy in music, @_generalisation_
Joyously infectious electronic pop doesn’t get much better than the new album from @alexishotchip entitled Paris in the Spring.
And if reading about how one goes about making joyously infectious electronic pop is your bag, may I point you in the direction of the new issue of some rag called Disco Pogo. There’s a lovely interview with Mr Taylor in there.
Went to the unforgettable @buggedoutclub Weekender and the only pic of me is interviewing the brilliant @justin_mark_robertson on Sunday afternoon. A restorative chat to get people going ahead of the final day’s activities.
Got more sleep than the first Weekender in 2000 (Prestatyn flashbacks are real). Saw lots of lovely people and got reacquainted with lost friends. A much-needed tonic.
Viva acid house and all who sail in her glorious wings.
RIP Catherine O’Hara, the genius actor behind one of the funniest characters ever, the inimitable Moira Rose.
“If that’s not a cause for alcohol, I don’t know what is!”
Old habits die hard (welcome to the party, pal). The top 22 albums from the last 12 months. An understated Balearic-found sounds-stadium dance music-post-Durutti Column-art rock vibe…
Geese would undoubtedly have been higher if I’d started listening to it earlier than two weeks ago.
Kendrick Lamar’s DNX is probably my most-listened-to album of 2025, but it came out at the end of 2024. Nothing if not a stickler…
