L'ora più buia 🎥 Joe Wright (2017) Voto - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ 🇮🇹 In occasione dell'appena trascorso compleanno del magistrale Gary Oldman, volevo recuperare questo film diretto da Joe Wright che gli ha donato il suo unico Oscar in carriera come miglior attore protagonista. È una perla di film, un film politico e pungente che mi ha fatto venire la pelle d'oca in più di una sequenza con il grandioso primo ministro britannico Winston Churchill interpretato appunto da uno stratosferico Sir. Gary Oldman; una pellicola con una fotografia sublime, una colonna sonora epica e una sceneggiatura davvero scritta bene personalmente parlando; oltre Oldman ho adorato anche Stephen Dillane, Lily James e Ben Mendelsonhn. I dialoghi sono profondi e tanto epici, ogni frame trasuda tensione, sforzo e potenza narrando la situazione politica e militare della Gran Bretagna durante il secondo conflitto mondiale e gli scontri indiretti con nazisti e fascisti. It’s a gem of a film—a sharp and compelling political drama that gave me chills in more than one scene, featuring the great British Prime Minister Winston Churchill portrayed by a truly extraordinary Sir Gary Oldman. It’s a movie with sublime cinematography, an epic score, and, in my opinion, a brilliantly written screenplay. Besides Oldman, I also loved Stephen Dillane, Lily James, and Ben Mendelsohn. Atonement's plot centers on 13year old Briony Tallis in 1935 England, who falsely implicates Robbie Turner in a crime, destroying his relationship with her sister Cecilia and sending Robbie to war, leading to devastating consequences across their lives and culminating in Briony's lifelong quest for redemption through writing, revealing themes of lost innocence, love, guilt, and memory, especially in its famous twist. Research often explores how the film bridges the gap between literature and cinema, particularly in its final, jarring reveal that the romantic ending is a fiction written by an older Briony.In Christian theology, the word “atonement” is described as the reconciliation of man with God, through Christ’s sacrificial death. (Oxford University Press,2005) A rephrasing of the basic question leads to Briony’s tussle with her morality: “How can I be rewarded my forgiveness if I am the one who gets to decide what happens?”. In other words, Briony is aware that one cannot self-ascribe atonement. One can only seek it, but it can be granted by the only ones who have been wronged. Being an author of the story places Briony in the apex because of her absolute power to decide outcomes. Her position on the pedestal makes her question if she is not “also God” to the characters in her book. She recognizes her power but concludes that there can be “no atonement for God or novelists” and that only the attempt matters.
