Finally 🌖🌗🌘I had some time to make a thank you post to everyone who helped me out on this trip of making a soundtrack for series Amsterdam Empire for @netflixnl , a trip I did mainly with director @jonas_govaerts who went deep with me. 🏃🏾‍♀️Next to creating Famke’s 90s hit I had a lot of freedom to do many different things, like forming a dub/reggae band that plays in the back or ‘coffee shops’ and as score in the series, as well as creating sleazy music for s*x clubs and working together with different hiphop artists and writing tracks together around characters. Also I was able to do a deep dive in weird dutch (and related) music that we placed all around the series as well, like a mix tape with favorite weird dutch music combined with music I could make with others. All at our @worldofpaintstudios The team together: Composing assistants: @anna0_0vm & @angkelid (who also played keys for many tracks and sung a lot and were part of the whooolle proces, thanks in so many ways for that!) And also thanks to @ofra85 to help me searching weird music and @betonkust for helping me arrange some of the music It was fun 🌀🌀

🌀Over the past 1.5 year we have been working on the composition & soundtrack for Netflix’s upcoming series Amsterdam Empire starring Famke Janssen, Elise Schaap and Jacob Derwig. Kai composed all original music💧with the help of Anna van Maarseveen and Angelina Damyanova, and Ilias did the mixing and mastering🎚️for the music score and OST. All original music was composed, mixed and mastered at World Of Paint Studios.
 Amsterdam Empire is out on Netflix today, and the official soundtrack is coming out tomorrow on all streaming platforms 🌍🌎🌏

Hey everyone, we haven’t been very active with posting lately, so here are some releases from 2024 that we worked on. Many more are coming in 2025, but we have to keep those a secret until then ;-)

Hello.. 🌀 here is a little update on the recording studio we have been building.. first round of acoustics are done and with super intern Milo we built 50 panels and hung them here. Sound is really really good in here. Figured out and connected big part of the Harrison 4032 mixer and all is working, still quite some soldering to do and then further visual touches! Hang in there and we show a finished studio soon..

CV Vision - Im Tal der Stutzer Our mastering approach for @cvvision ’s latest album was to focus on the musical storytelling that CV Vision has crafted. The album features lots of creative transitions so controlling the dynamics was the most important thing for us in order to preserve the freedom and playfulness, but at the same time stay cohesive from beginning to end. Released on @bureaub_hamburg 💧

@sasha__renkas new album is now out on @worldofpaintmusic 💧 Our approach with stem mastering was to preserve and highlight the beautiful Alesis MIDIVERB II ambiences and reverbs that Sasha has chosen throughout the album. All tracks were treated with very delicate compression and EQ’ing in order to preserve the micro and macro dynamics, and allow all instruments and vocals to reverberate naturally in their space. We are very excited for this release and we think this is one of our best sounding masters, building on top of Sasha’s great productions and mixes.

Last year our friend Sara visited us to master of her EP ‘Soleil Tartare’ which she made as Dim Garden. This record is now out on @yarrowballet and available to order on bandcamp and @clone.nl

💧We had a busy year coloring and mastering at World of Paint Studios. Among many different projects, we mixed and mastered @weintendtocausehavoc cover of Chaka Khan’s Ain’t Nobody in Dolby Atmos. Kai composed the score for the recently released HBO Max’s ‘Love Has Won’. We also made progress on building our 2nd studio, which will be dedicated to recording and mixing through our vintage Harrison 4032 console🎚️🎚️ For 2024, we have decided to update our prices to reflect more accurately the amount of work involved in every process, and also make it more affordable for artists who only want mastering. Standard mastering has been reduced from 80e to 60e, while coloring has been bumped from 40e to 60e. For artists who want both mastering and coloring, the total cost remains the same, while the new price for coloring matches better the effort and time spent, from doing demo tryouts of different colors, to applying the chosen color to each song with a unique EQ curve in order to achieve cohesive and consistent results. Every piece of music is treated slightly differently, and usually we spend more time coloring than mastering. Our new prices are also available on our website. Lastly, we would like to thank every artist, band, studio and label that chose to work with us in 2023, and special thanks to @benoit_gerard 🇨🇭for trusting us with many of his amazing artists. For this beautiful album by @itesa__ , we mixed and mastered stems which were already colored nicely by Itesa on multitrack tape. This album came out earlier this year as a self released album. Support and buy it from the Bandcamp link in our stories.

WITCH, the legendary Zamrock band from Zambia has just released Zango on Dezert Daze. This is their first album in 39 years and was recorded by Jasper Geluk at the historic DB Studios in Zambia, which was the home of Zamrock in the 70s. It was mixed by Jacco Gardner in Antwerp. For the coloring and mastering, we used a Studer B67 running on SM911 tape at 3.75 ips to carefully roll off the highs, aiming to stay close to W.I.T.C.H sound from back in the day. Some tracks received a touch of tape saturation to bring them in line with the overall sound.💧 Cheers to WITCH for their enduring spirit, and big thanks to Jacco Gardner for making this possible!

For coloring 💧 we often add tape compression and saturation, so we have to calibrate these machines to get the colors in a reliable way. Here is some footage from the recent calibration we did on the Telefunken M15a from the seventies. We are using an SL1210 to load the calibration tape. As we own the German version of this machine which comes with the head block facing up, the tape has to be inverted before loading it on the pick-up reel. The 2 speed settings of 7.5 and 15ips of the M15a are tuned to different recording and reproduction EQ curves, so we can use them in a playful but precise way 🏃🏾‍♀️. When we master your music you can always ask us to try adding color on it.
