Adam Nelson Honored with 2024 Hermes Creative “Career Achievement” Award Celebrating a Quarter Century of Creativity: Workhouse Founder Honored for 25 Years of Industry Excellence Hermes Creative Awards, globally recognized for excellence in marketing and communications, has honored Adam Nelson, Founder & CEO of Workhouse, with the prestigious 2024 Career Achievement Award. This esteemed accolade acknowledges Workhouse’s 25-year anniversary and his indelible impact on the marketing and communications industry. Nelson dedicated the award to his childhood hero, Evel Knievel, whose audacious spirit has been a significant influence on his professional approach. “In the turbulent arena of human bravado, where men court danger with the fervor of poets, there strode Evel Knievel, a maverick draped in leather and legend. With each leap, he unleashed a tempest of rebellion that echoed across the vast expanse of the American dream,” said Nelson. “Knievel enraptured us with adrenaline and awe, drawing a global mass with each tantalizing test. His boldness resonated with me at a young age, shaping my understanding of risk and reward in business. Each jump, a thunderous proclamation of defiance, each crash a tumultuous crescendo of chaos and catharsis. From the forgotten byways of Middle America to the glittering stages of the Strip, his flair for the dramatic and ability to capture the imagination of millions is something I’ve aspired to emulate in the mad marketing campaigns Workhouse creates,” Nelson expressed. The Hermes Creative Awards, governed by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), is an international competition recognizing outstanding work in the industry. The awards celebrate the creative prowess of professionals involved in the concept, writing, and design of traditional and emerging media. This year, over 6,500 entries were judged, representing numerous countries and demonstrating the global reach and influence of the awards. LA WEEKLY: The Most Relatable Turf War You’ve Never Thought About Queens filmmaker Collin Kornfeind’s new short doc, For The Dogs, turns a neighborhood showdown between dog owners and parents into something unexpectedly moving. Here in Los Angeles, we don’t think much about park space. We have Griffith. We have Runyon. We have that weird strip of grass next to the car wash on Sunset that somebody’s golden retriever has unilaterally declared public land. Space, relative to the East Coast, is something we take for granted — which is exactly why For The Dogs, a short documentary arriving this spring from filmmaker Collin Kornfeind, hits differently for an Angeleno audience than it might for the New Yorkers living inside it. The film is set in Astoria, Queens, at a mixed-use basketball court and playground called Sean’s Place, where every morning between seven and nine, dog owners take over the empty courts to let their animals run off-leash before the kids and the ballplayers show up. It is, by any legal reading, not allowed. Fines exist. Neighbors complain. Reddit threads metastasize. And yet every single morning, the dogs come back, because the nearest actual dog park is a 25-minute walk away, and nobody with a job and a commute has an extra hour to donate to their terrier’s cardio. Kornfeind, a Hofstra grad currently based in Astoria, is not new to documentary work that finds friction in places most people walk right past. His last film, Please Rise, won a 2021 Edward R. Murrow Award for sports reporting at The Washington Post, examining the tangled politics of the national anthem at sporting events. He also picked up a 2023 Emmy for producing and editing Welcome to the NHL. But ask him whether he considers himself a political filmmaker and he’ll wave you off. “No, I just consider myself someone who asks ‘Why?’ a whole lot,” he says. Food for Thought wins Best Experimental Film at the 26th Annual Coney Island Film Festival. In what was once nicknamed “Sodom by the Sea,” our sea-tossed short film “Food for Thought” took Best Experimental Film at the 26th Annual @coneyislandfilmfest . Coney Island and Asbury Park share more than competing Tillie’s. Two seaside resorts once left in disrepair, remade in the image of gray box buildings and unimaginative architects who envision progress as nothing more than a bag of loot. Hyper-gentrification heating the markets while the little guy scraps for the sanctity of food and shelter. The film flickers in that space. A half-starved sailor adrift on the Asbury Park boardwalk, wandering between hallucination and history, searching for scraps of memory and meaning. Winner, Best Experimental Film at the 2026 Coney Island Film Festival. Winner, Best Silent Film at the 2026 Absurd Film Festival in Milan, Italy, and a Finalist at the 2025 AP’N3 Film Challenge. The film enjoyed its East Coast Premiere at the 24th Annual Garden State Film Festival. Food for Thought is what happens when hyper-gentrification is allowed to plow forward in the name of progress. Directed, shot, and edited by Gary Hanna. Written, produced, and featuring Adam Nelson. #coneyisland #film #movie #cinema #asburypark
