The opening of the David Geffen galleries at LACMA is a real milestone for Los Angeles. It brings together a world class collection of the world’s finest works of art and one of the most architecturally important structures ever built in our city. Congratulations to Michael Govan, the staff and Board of Trustees of LACMA (especially @nicoleavant )architect Peter Zumthor and thank you David Geffen for this beautiful, cultural marvel. So much fun with so many friends celebrating the opening last week. Make sure to go and enjoy all of the art, the food and music that makes LACMA such a point of pride for Angelenos. @davidgeffen

Today is Jane Goodall Day
If you haven’t seen Famous Last Words on Netflix, today is a great day to be reminded of what a phenomenal role model she was. She recorded this interview before her passing, not to be released until after her death. So, What is Goodall Day? “The idea is simple: do good, all day. Whether it’s planting a tree, reducing waste, helping a neighbor, or standing up for wildlife, every action—no matter how big or small—matters. And by joining #GoodAllDay, you’re not just celebrating her—you’re helping build a better, more hopeful world just as Jane continues to do.”

Sandy Wernick brought me together with Adam Sandler more than a decade ago and encouraged us to take a huge leap and make movies together. He was a sweetheart and he worked until the very end. He was a champion of comedy and comedians and he will be missed. Adam lovingly plays a 1990s version of Sandy in the Netflix film “Sandy Wexler.” Thank you for everything Sandy. Wernick is survived by wife of 64 years, Barbara; daughter Michele; son Barry and daughter-in-law Jillian; as well as grandson Sammy, sister Joyce and brother-in-law Jules Sandy Wernick 1939-2026

To be a character actor who can steal every scene in some of the best movies ever made and still be a leading man who can carry films big and small is no small feat in Hollywood. Robert Duvall was that kind of an actor and that kind of a star. Today we lost one of the greats- thank goodness we will always have Tom Hagen, Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore, Bull Meechum, Mac Sledge and all of the great characters he immortalized for us.

Today we lost a wildly funny legend. Catherine O’Hara; brilliant on SCTV, the GOAT of movie Moms in the Home Alone and Beetlejuice films and sheer perfection in the Christopher Guest films, especially For Your Consideration and Best in Show and talk about going out on top with Schitt’s Creek and The Studio. She found the balance of reality and parody like few actors do, so close to the top without going to far over the top. She played the craziest characters that were all undeniably real. I was first wowed by her in After Hours and have loved every project she blessed. We lost a great one too soon. Catherine O’Hara (1954 - 2026)…thank you.

On the occasion of the last Sundance Film Festival in Park City, I am filled with great memories and nostalgia for the people, the legacy, the real business and good times had there. My first time experiencing the Festival was 2002, just post 9/11 and it was a different world.  No lines, no snow but great films! Over the years I had great experiences as a fan and a distributor and mostly as both. Early parties with partners- an incredible dinner party at Reed’s amazing church house, and the first time seeing the Netflix logo on screen at the Eccles premiere of “This Film Not Yet Rated,” late night negations and time with heroes. One particular standout was the night I got to spend with Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. We sponsored the premiere party for “Awesome, I F###ing Shot That.” Adam came in the night before and wanted to see some movies- I was able to pull some strings and get him tickets and we saw back to back films togeher and stopped only long enough for a burger and beer and to get to know each other - he told me about his dream project, a film about a NYC Subway graffiti artist, set in the 80s Dawn of hip hop. He was amazing - who says “never meet your heroes?” The next night we had the premiere of the Beastie Boys doc and then, on to the after party at Harry Os. We asked the band to snap the picture posted here, along with the late Mark Urman from ThinkFilm. After that hang with Adam and thinking we were friends he took one look at the Big “Netflix” banner and said “Fxxx No, I not posing in front of that corporate bullsh@t !” We took down the banner, took the picture and enjoyed the party. Hard to imagine that he would pass away so young and before getting to make that film. Memories with folks we’ve lost like Martin Mull, Robert Redford, Norman Lear, Adam Yuach, Mark Urman, to name a few, remind us of how precious life is and how fast time moves. Good luck to Sundance on the move to Boulder and I hope everyone in Park City is celebrating. I am missing the party but I have the memories.
