We recognise that pole*!
Thrilled to see Wolfgang Woerner’s creatures, as pictured at our Airing exhibition last summer, featured in the March/April edition of @embroidery_mag (edited by Claire Waring).
A great article in which @wolfandwilding talks to @belle16isdrawing about his work, being the new chairman of @prismtextiles and their forthcoming show @thepavillionsmileend

*Thanks to Andrew Macbeth and @matthale7122 for giving the pole a lovely new coat of fresh white paint. Apologies to Wolfgang that the makeover is a bit late for Leopold!
That pole is the bane of my life (this is Alison speaking, not Ken. Ken probably loves the pole).
Tension is closed for installation until 6pm, 27th March, for the Opening Event of Hampton & Co. All welcome.

For Wolfgang Woerner, aka @wolfandwilding , making art is a necessity. His totemic works depicting creatures unlike anything we have seen before make unsettling viewing, exploring feelings of displacement, loss, abandonment and neglect. They speak of harrowing narratives, hinted at but never told.
As the new chairman of @prismtextiles he also introduces us to their forthcoming show in London @thepavilionsmileend which sees members of the textile group respond to the theme of ‘Dictionary’.

• Over the moon to have my work featured in the March/April issue of @embroidery_mag .
The article takes an in-depth look at The Puppet Master, which was shown at the PRISM exhibition Any Other Business, London last April and during the summer as part of the Airing exhibition at Tension Fine Art, London curated by Alison Aye. It explores what drives my work and the ideas behind it, how the pieces connect to the past and the present, and how these threads inform the development of future work.
It reflects on how ideas evolve over time and how I’ve gradually woven different concepts together throughout the years. From the year spent at the Royal Drawing School to notions of being a foreigner, of being both German and now British, the article reflects how ideas of childhood and upbringing thread through countries and decades.
A huge thank you to Claire Waring, Editor of Embroidery Magazine for her support and Ellen Bell @belle16isdrawing for the thoughtful article and for taking the time to speak with me. It has been an adventure unpicking the work and reflecting on the process behind it.

While doing the @royaldrawingschool residency at @dumfrieshouse , I finally joined sessions with @drawingisfree_org and @pencils4tea , who each run free sessions via zoom every Monday and Thursday, every week of the year.
Loved it. It’s an hour of drawing, with each drawing lasting the length of one music track, while different participants take turns posing. Hundreds of people joined. It’s such a great way to completely switch off, stop overthinking, and simply let the drawing unfold.

It all started here. A huge thank you to the @royaldrawingschool and @dumfrieshouse for this residency opportunity.
The residency began last week. It’s been brilliant to switch off, draw, explore the surrounding areas and the house, and simply draw for the sake of drawing. All will be revealed in posts to come.
Also on the residency are @ebbylintwistle@helenkellock and @joeya1 . It’s been great to exchange stories, ideas, and conversations, and be inspired by our different approaches to the same surroundings.

We were absolutely delighted that Berni Yates @berniyates , Lead on Knowledge Exchange for the Fashion Program at Central Saint Martins, opened our Private View.
Berni’s passion for fashion, textiles, craft, and making by hand is truly inspiring. In her talk, she reflected on the importance of practices that may once have been considered “old-fashioned,” and how vital it is to keep them relevant in a contemporary context. She spoke to the way many of our members work at the intersection of textiles, craft, and art, something that is beautifully reflected in this year’s Dictionary exhibition.
A big and heartfelt thank you to Bernie for such a thoughtful and inspiring opening.
With best wishes,
Wolfgang Woerner, Chair @wolfandwilding

This Sunday, 26 April is your last chance to catch the @prismtextiles DICTIONARY exhibition and I’m going out with one more FREE drop-in workshop 14:30–16:30.
Honestly… you’d be mad to miss it! 🥳💖🐶🌈☀️
Last Sunday we turned second-hand clothing from @reskinned.clothing into a parade of wildly animated, joyfully strange soft-sculptures, all in just two hours.
Pure creativity. Total magic. Absolute joy.
Come and join and make something unexpected.
