Recently, we had the opportunity to join Army and industry leaders at the UAS Marketplace to discuss how new training approaches and emerging technologies are shaping the future of Army Aviation. One theme stood out: upgradability and rapid deployment matter. As operational demands evolve, there is increasing value in systems that reduce complexity while delivering timely intelligence and flexibility at the edge. WingXpand was proud to share how our smart planes support those priorities through portability, fast deployment, and mission adaptability. Appreciate the conversations and collaboration with everyone helping shape the future of Army Aviation. @usarmy @us.armyaviation @fortrucker_and_avcoe

Even when the sun goes down, your mission doesn’t stop. Neither should your drone. It’s not about day or night. It’s about being able to see when it matters most. Whether it’s a search, an emergency, or critical infrastructure monitoring, conditions aren’t always clear. Light fades. Visibility drops. But the need for reliable information doesn’t. The real constraint isn’t darkness. It’s efficiency. How long you can stay in the air? How clearly you can see? How consistently you can support the people doing the work? At WingXpand our mission is to expand what’s possible with yours: → reliable visibility, day or night → compact systems with real sensing capability → longer operations without added complexity

Most drones are built for one job. When the mission changes, you lose time switching systems or operate with gaps. That matters when speed and decisions are critical. WingXpand solves it with modular payloads and adaptive AI software so one platform can shift missions on the fly and so your team can take better action on the scene. Less downtime. More insights. Better decisions when it counts.

Most technology starts falling behind the moment you put it into use. Needs change. Missions evolve. New capabilities come online. But too many systems are built for a single moment in time. At WingXpand, we take a different approach. Our smart planes are built with modular payloads and upgradable software so they can adapt as you do. You are not stuck replacing systems every time something changes. You have a platform that grows with your needs and keeps getting better over time. That is how you stay ready for today while being prepared for what comes next. We are expanding what’s possible. ✈️🧠🎒

The industry keeps pushing a tradeoff that shouldn’t exist. VTOL takes off straight up and down. Easy to launch but more limited in range and time. Fixed-wing flies like an airplane. Long range, long endurance but can be harder to deploy. And you’re expected to pick one. That’s the wrong question. Real missions demand both. Different environments. Different objectives. Changing conditions in real time. At WingXpand, we don’t force the compromise. We give operators the flexibility to launch how they need to and fly as long and as far as the mission requires with a Group 2 smart plane that expands from a backpack. And we make it simple. We’ve trained operators across defense and commercial teams. Many had never flown systems like this before. Within minutes, they’re in the air and getting value. Because capability doesn’t matter if it’s too complex to use. Stop choosing between convenience and performance. You should have both.

More teams are waking up to a simple truth: You don’t need more people or more gear, you need better tools. WingXpand smart planes deploy from a backpack in minutes, fly longer, and carry better sensors that can be swapped out as your mission changes. Be ready to adapt to whatever the day throws at you. Less setup. More coverage. Smarter decisions.

Great to be back at @sofwerx , this time for the Small Business Boot Camp. Most events talk about innovation. This one actually connects it with operators, capital, and real deployment. That’s the difference. Over the next few days, it’s everything from navigating government pathways to direct engagement with operators, Primes, and other partners, but the bigger takeaway is this: The future of defense innovation isn’t built in silos. It’s built in environments like this where small businesses, operators, and capital collide early and move fast. Exactly where @wingxpand operates. Appreciate the @sofwerx team and United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for creating it.

St. Louis is rapidly becoming the place to build the future of aerospace. With Boeing relocating its defense headquarters back to the region, the talent and innovation pipeline here keeps getting stronger. Proud to see WingXpand recognized as part of this momentum and where the future of advanced aviation is headed. Link: https://bit.ly/4spIo1J

During a recent flight test, our smart plane happened to pass through a natural sun halo. It appears when light refracts through ice crystals high in the atmosphere. A reminder of something simple but powerful: Perspective changes what you can see. The environment is constantly producing signals, whether that's movement, change, or patterns. But the teams making critical decisions often lack the vantage point to see them clearly. In defense, public safety, and disaster response, the same idea applies: As the world reveals these signals, the real advantage goes to the teams who see them first.

WingXpand CEO & Co-Founder, James Barbieri was named in 2026 St. Louis Business 500 by St. Louis Magazine. A recognition like this is humbling and it really reflects the work of an incredible team and the mission we’re pursuing together. Across defense, disaster response, and critical infrastructure, operators are being asked to make fast decisions in complex situations with limited information. There’s a growing need for smart robotics that help operators see more, understand situations faster, and respond when it matters most. That’s what drives our work at WingXpand. We’re building backpackable smart planes that deploy in seconds and use AI to quickly sift through the scene to surface the details that actually matter. Grateful to be part of this community of innovators and proud to keep expanding what’s possible. Read more at: /business/stl500/

“We have to give our soldiers and those out there in harm’s way every advantage possible.” The pace of change in drone technology today is unlike anything we’ve seen before. The next major defense advantage won’t come from legacy approaches. It will come from smarter, more autonomous capabilities built and deployed at scale by smaller agile companies like @wingxpand . A fundamental shift is happening right now in how our Country thinks about autonomy, security, and the role of American innovation. For years, much of the world relied on foreign-made drones or expensive, exquisite systems produced in limited quantities. Today, the United States is recognizing that secure, American-built robotics are not just an option, they are a strategic necessity. At WingXpand, we’ve built our Smart Planes around a simple idea: Powerful technology should be accessible to the people doing the hardest missions. That means aircraft that deploy from a backpack, fly dramatically longer than typical drones, and use onboard AI to help teams detect what matters faster whether that’s a threat on the ground, a wildfire, or a missing person. But what matters most isn’t the drone, it’s what these advanced robots unlock. It's a future where autonomous systems help our warfighters stay safer. Where first responders can see critical information before it’s too late. Where American-made robotics built at scale strengthen our national resilience. At WingXpand, our mission has always been to expand what’s possible with smart autonomous robots. That spans from defense to disaster response to agriculture and all those in the field, who keep our world running. The demand we’re seeing isn’t slowing down, it’s just getting started. And so are we. American innovation, as always, will continue to lead into the future. @deptofwar @usarmy @usnavy @usairforce @marines @uscg @usarmydevcom @sofwerx @afwerx /article/news/national/military-news/stl-companies-prepared-to-meet-drone-needs-of-us-military/63-55e47d24-0d0e-4f5e-a019-df4d97c4a9d9
