Today is the start of #NationalSafeBoatingWeek 🛟 🛥️
Accidents on the water can happen in an instant, leaving little time to grab a stowed life jacket.
Whether you’re on a fishing trip or enjoying a day on the water with family, wear it, check your safety gear, and always be prepared for the unexpected.

We’re wearing our life jackets to work today because wearing your life jacket works! 🦺🚣

.
Drowning was the reported cause of 83% of boating fatalities, 88% of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. The best life jacket is one YOU will wear when you are on the water. When accidents occur, there is usually little time to grab stowed vests. Wearing one at all times reduces the risk of drowning.
Wear your life jacket to work day kicks off National Safe Boating Week which begins this weekend. Stay tuned for more boating safety tips so you can stay safe on the water this season.

Defending the homeland begins on the high seas. 🌊
Crews aboard Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma and an embarked helicopter successfully interdicted three suspected drug smuggling vessels simultaneously off the coast of Colombia this past Friday, preventing 6,085 pounds of cocaine worth nearly $45.8 million from reaching American shores.
This operation required precision aerial disabling fire to stop a non-compliant vessel after warning shots proved ineffective, resulting in the apprehension of nine suspected narco-terrorists. The vessels were later sunk as hazards to navigation. This complex, multi-asset mission relied on close coordination with SOUTHCOM and Joint Interagency Task Force South, underscoring the unwavering professionalism of Coast Guard personnel and their commitment to disrupting illicit networks to protect national security.
Always ready, the men and women of the Coast Guard remain on watch across our maritime borders and approaches, where defense of America begins.
HEROES IN ACTION.
After a plane crashed off the coast of Melbourne, Florida, the heroic men and women of the Coast Guard RESCUED all 11 people onboard.
Thank you to these heroes and all the Coast Guard personnel who work around the clock to protect our homeland.
More than just a month.
May is National #MilitaryAppreciationMonth, a time dedicated to recognizing the enduring legacy, bravery, and sacrifice of the U.S. Armed Forces. We take this time to remember those who came before us, and to celebrate the men and women who currently stand the watch.
Here at the @USCG , we are proud to be part of that joint force. Whether breaking ice in the polar regions, intercepting threats at sea, or conducting complex rescue missions, our members are driven by their life-saving missions.
This month, we honor the courage of every service member and the resilience of the military families who support them. Thank you for answering the call.

One of the toughest icebreaking seasons in years is complete.
From the Great Lakes to the East Coast, Coast Guard crews pushed through heavy ice and late-season conditions to keep waterways open.
6,900+ hours.
Nearly 1,000 vessels supported.
When conditions hit their worst, the mission doesn’t stop. A robust domestic icebreaker fleet is crucial for economic prosperity, energy security, and strategic mobility.

You’ve seen the reels. 🚁⚓🎥
Now meet the team behind the camera.
The U.S. Coast Guard Video Production Team is helping bring Coast Guard missions to life across your feed, from search and rescue, to maritime law enforcement, to border security operations, and life underway.
This time, the spotlight’s on them.
When the Secretary of Homeland Security steps aboard, we don’t just talk security—we show it. Secretary Markwayne Mullin joined @USCG Station Miami Beach crews for real-world training: disabling engines, defending borders, and mastering the tactics that keep threats at bay.
Station Miami’s team didn’t hold back, giving the Secretary a firsthand look at how Coast Guard Miami turns strategy into action. From Sector Miami to Base Miami, and alongside our HSTF partners, we proved that protecting America’s ports and waterways isn’t just a mission—it’s a mindset.
Coast Guard units in coordination with our partners, play a critical role in the U.S. Coast Guard’s mission to protect the United States’ ports, waterways, and coastal regions.

The U.S. Coast Guard is honing our maritime fighting force through establishment of the Special Missions Command, which will unify our deployable specialized forces under one structure.
This change enhances how we protect America from threats on the water, beneath the ocean, and across our communities. By bringing these elite teams together, we will be able to respond faster to emergencies, disasters, and complex maritime challenges at home and abroad.
Special Missions Command will include units trained in counterterrorism, disaster response, ports and waterways security, counter‑narcoterrorism operations, expeditionary missions, and advanced diving and undersea work. Unifying these capabilities boosts readiness, strengthens coordination with partners, and modernizes how we carry out some of our most demanding missions. The command is expected to be fully operational in October 2026.
