When I was 15 my dad showed me the song by The Mountain Goats “The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton”. John Darnielle recorded it on a boombox with just him and his guitar. It sounds fucked up and all fuzzy, distorted from being, well, a boombox and not a “real microphone”. And that song breaks my fucking heart. Part of what’s soooo good about those recordings to me is that they sound like you could bite them. Do u know what I mean?? Go listen!! The sound is so crunchy it feels like butter scraping across a toasted piece of bread. Anyways this new song “Glove” is my contribution to the legacy of writing-it-then-immediately-recording-with-your-shitty-microphone and I hope it feels like you are sitting on the bed with toast in your ears too ❤️ Hail Satan!!
My twin sister Amantha edits all of my videos and she never knows whether or not to put the words on them. I said go for it, let em know what we talking about. Lmk if u think she should try something different next time, I’ll tell her, she’s not on ig. Anyways thank you so much Taha @fullytaha for taking the video!!!,— this is Good Things at Beat Kitchen the other month, @noahrothmusic on guitar with me ❤️ #folkmusic #chicagomusic #songsliveandinperson

Kath Bloom returns to the Hideout supported by Winefred RT
April 10th!
Tickets up at hideoutchicago[dot]com
Kath Bloom is some kind of legend. She comes from a special place where country, blues and folk are made beautifully translucent and emotive. Highly regarded but a bit of a mystery. The Connecticut based singer/songwriter has a special gift – her almost supernaturally beautiful, wavering soprano is one that has to be heard, she has a clear transparent moonlight tone combined with an earthly raw quality that can silence a room.
