We want to hear from you! The cosplayer!
For this spotlight I wanted to talk about my samus varia suit cosplay from 2019!
I mostly made it out of eva foam, lots of 10mm thickness and a few thinner areas such as the waist and fingers
The pattern was made referencing the game model and textures.
I built my own 3d model using the texture to determine where I want my foam seams.
And the digital design was sized to a 3d scan of myself for a perfect fit.
Using pepakura I created paper patterns to transfer to 10mm eva foam.
The cannon uses a pull cord to open the 3dprinted flaps with a scissor linkage!
The entire armor was brushed with hexflex paint as a primer and basecoat and sprayed with flexible metallic spraypaint called hexart, then hexflex clear as a protective coat.
5V usb led strips were glued all over the armor, using several powerbanks as batteries.
I was really happy with the foam armor, it fit me really well and it was very light and comfortable to move in.
The special 3d design pattern I made to make sure that each pattern seam was hidden in the design, made the armor very smooth to make with little patchwork needed.
